Bears sign Jay Cutler through 2020

I wish Romo had his defense.

No Doubt. but I bet panthers fans wish Cam was throwing to Dez, Williams, Miles, Beasley, Witten, and Murray out of the backfield. We have weapons growing out of our ass, Panthers fans walk around talking about how they hope Lafell can step up. That motherfucker wouldn't make our practice squad and he's Carolina's #2. Honestly, a W.A.R. like stat would be incredible for football. I know people are putting up madden numbers these days but Almost 4,000 total yards and 30 td's for a 24 yr old qb is nothing to sneeze at.

Check out DYAR by football outsiders (Cam in 17th best QB in league by that measure and 19th by DVOA)

Right above Cutler (18) and Bradford (19). There ya go, Rangers!

In fairness to Cam, that is only passing plays. Rushing is separated out, which obviously is a big plus for Cam. I'm not as up on football advanced stats and baseball, so not sure if there are better all encompassing measures of QB performance.

Stafford Bradford Romo Cutler. That was the grouping. The only link between all of them were that they had all recently received huge contracts (Bradford may get a big extension), and none of them had ever won anything. (While I personally hate that metric in a wholly team sport I simply acknowledge that it is the nationally used talking point). My only question was if those guys who have all been banged up got big dollars what will Cam command.

I think you undervalue Cam's stats. the only person compiling a total of 5k yards for a season is Stafford and he's throwing to Megatron. Romo came close in 2012 passing and rushing and he was throwing to Dez. If you don't see how 4,700 yds 35 tds, 4,600 yds 28 tds, and 4k 30 tds in your 1st 3 years is gaudy then I don't know what to tell you.

In Chicago, it would be called hardcore porn. They'd name a fucking building downtown after Cam.

let me put it this way. Everybody loves Andrew luck right? He's the greatest second coming of Peyton Brady right? well, if Mr luck wants to best Newtons putrid #'s over his 1st 3 years of 13,331 and 92 TDs he needs 4,500 yards and 37 tds. That's an MVP season for anybody not named Manning or Brees (2 guys I definitely won't compare Cam too).

Why are Newton's numbers putrid?

jesus adolph christ I was being sarcastic, hence a post before I referred to them as gaudy. Maybe something got lost in translation but weren't you the one suggesting that I had no business grouping him with those qbs because 1 of those qbs threw for 5k yds 1 time? I think his number are awesome and I think he is better then them all given his age, durability, and what he has to work with compared to the aforementioned qbs.

Something definitely got lost in translation. My initial point was that it's hard for me to compare Newton to those guys listed because of their much different skill sets. I can't just add Newton's rushing and passing yards (and total TDs) and compare straight to throwing numbers. If others can, that's fine. I also think Bradford and Cutler are much worse than Romo and Stafford, so it was a weird group to begin with. I used Stafford's 5k passing yards and Romo's 100+ rating to say it's impossible (for me) to say 3300 passing yards + 600 rushing yards is the same as throwing for 5k yards or achieving an elite passer rating. Cam will probably never reach those passer stats. Romo and Stafford will never rush for even 150 yards or score 5+ rushing TDs.

I'd think what the Niners do with Kaep is a much better comparison. Both are FAs in 2015.

That's fine but I think you can slice it anyway you want too. I think your right that Romo and Stafford will never reach cams rushing stats, but I don't agree that a 24 yr old Cam won't reach those passing stats, especially if he ever gets to play with a toy like Dez or Megatron. Not to dismiss 5k but that would be a whole lot more impressive if he was throwing the ball up to a 34 yr old steve smith. Look I was born and raised in Dallas and usually support Romo in the face of all of his detractors, but any Cowboy fan will tell you that the best player on our team is Dez Bryant. He changes everything on your offense and makes the game a whole lot easier on your qb. You get a megaton or a Dez in Carolina and you will never here the phrase "Cam was a little high on that one" again. He already threw for 4k with 5'8 32 yr old smitty on his last leg and some no names. What makes you think that if they ever get a real weapon in Carolina (Kelvin Benjamin?) Cam won't put video game like stats? He's already done it.

You are making way too much sense. Knocking a QB because of his rushing stats. Is this the 1960s? Yards are yards.

Cam still overthrows 6'6" Greg Olsen. Dez would make him better but he isn't going to come down with most of those balls.

I really don't know, but how many 4th quarter game winning drives did Cam do this season?

I know the NO game in Charlotte, but don't know of any others. Didn't the Panthers have the lead going into the 4th in most of their wins?
So much fail in this post.

Its not a dumb stat considering that the Bears have to go through Rodgers and Green Bay every year, just to get out of their division. Do you see that changing anytime soon?

Yes, so the Bears need to be better than the Packers. Cutler doesn't need to be better than Rodgers. Hence Cutler's record against Rodgers is meaningless. What the stat actually means is that over the past five seasons the Packers have been much better than the Bears. Surprise surprise.

Thought this would be a great time to revisit this thread.
