So what's the GOP's fascination with Ben Carson? He's finished third in two consecutive straw polls, but he's said a bunch of nutty things (Obamacare is the worst thing since slavery, compared the US to Nazi Germany, and makes Santorum/Bachmann look like gay-friendly moderates). Carson's extremely well-educated so, like Cruz, that makes his loopy pronouncements even more troubling. Carson's never held elective office and don't see President as an entry-level position. Also cracks me up that Santorum got to double-digit votes in a straw poll.

He's black.

He's black.

If you believe that the only reason Obama got elected was his race, then this is obviously part of the appeal. There's also a funny little race baiting fascination with people who claim to hate race baiting. If you criticize Carson, they can cry racism.

Does seem like a substitute Palin for Hillary play, but how many swing states are determined by Black voters? GOP still doesn't seem to understand the quantitative part of how the electoral college works. Carson's positions will turn off way more moderate voters than net Black voters in the swing states that will determine the election.

As Chris Rock said, "Do you think Flava Flav would have gotten elected?"

He was elected head of house when he was "clocking" that Scandanavian skank in real time.

More importantly, they can say, "We're not racist. We like Ben Carson."

"Uncle Thomas'" English muffins...great with poached eggs and caviar...and remember, they are best served when lightly toasted.

Personally I think Colin Powell was the first Black guy who could have been elected President, but conservatives now find him a traitor to the GOP. West and Carson are unelectable because of prior statements, temperament, policy positions, and lack of experience, not their race. GOP would be better served backing Condi Rice or finding a qualified Latino/a or Asian candidate. Diane Feinstein would have been a better VP pick than Ferraro in 1984, but she was only the Mayor of San Francisco at the time and nowhere near ready. If Hillary loses in 2016, it won't be because of her gender.

It's incredible that Carson can be so brilliant in one aspect of his life and so totally clueless and batshit crazy in others.

Setting up a PAC seems like he's at least thinking of exploring a presidential run. Santorum and Bachmann seemed sincere and genuine in running for President, not just looking for a pay day. Cain was looking to get paid. Newt was somewhere in between. Would appear that Carson has several other avenues to a pay day, so he may truly be interested in running. Don't see POTUS as an entry level position and he's already said a bunch of nutty things that would hurt him in a general election.
