Best laptop for high school kid?

The TP models they gave you guys in the early years were pretty bad (r-series). Later folks who got T-series models fared much, much better.

6 years later, and I'm still using my T400. A SSD and new RAM should be here this week. There was an iMac on my desk when I got my office. I requested a PC, several times, but nothing has materialized. I've decided to keep my mouth shut and use this thing for at least a year. My department is overwhelmingly full of mac people, so I should probably develop a proficiency with one.
