Follow-up to the ‘Shittiest Part of North Carolina’ poll

Editing the below to reflect mountain groupings:

Asheville - Central region

Boone / Blowing Rock / Banner Elk - North region (including Ashe County)

Highlands - South region (including Brevard/Pisgah/DuPont and Cherokee County)

I can see an argument for any of the beach or mountain options

NC mountains are beautiful but I’ve always preferred beaches to mountains

Voted Wilmington because OBX is such a huge pain in the ass to get to

they have expanded highway 64 and there are several stretches with speed limit of 70 so it’s a lot easier to get to than it used to be

I mean, they are nice livable cities that have a lot going for them on their own and also give you the ability to easily visit both the beach and the mountains. I didn't vote for it but I get it.
Tons of traffic and nightmare housing prices seem like a downside to me.

yeah, every place has downsides. I didn't say it's a perfect place to live, just that I can see why people would vote for it.

I prefer the mountains - and think the Brevard/Pisgah/DuPont area is the best.

Highlands/Cashiers/Sapphire is mainly just rich retirement/second homes now.
For people from Atlanta, who can screw up anything.

That’s good info, I didn’t know that. 5hrs from Winston to OBX is not too bad.

My issue with OBX is, there is always a closer beach. Even Research Triangle has Wilmington under 2hrs away vs. 4hrs to OBX. For a dude fishing trip I am going with OBX every time, but for a family road trip that extra 4hrs matters.

I guess you could take the ferry as seen in the Netflix show Outer Banks from Chapel Hill to OBX to shorten the trip. 🤦

still missing a whole lot west of Asheville. Bryson City/Cherokee/Murphy/Fontana Lake, etc.
I’m open to other mountain groupings

I’d put all of the above including Brevard/Pisgah/DuPont in the South region
