Biden's in

I'm not convinced Joe would have won this year. Trump would have called him something corny like "Joe-bama", Republicans would have shifted into their "NO-bama" mode, and all of the "tweeners" would have made up some asinine justification to vote for Trump anyway.

Yep. And the Alex Jones crowd would have convinced enough Republicans that Joe refused treatment for Beau so that his death would build sympathy for a Presidential run.

There was no way Hillary was going to lose either, until she did.

Aren't you trying to win elections though? Joe has the right politics for America, we don't need pie in the sky socialists.

Medical care for all. Pie in the sky.

God bless the USA.

Also, where's the evidence for a moderate (at least "moderate" by current US standards, as juice points out) doing better? We just saw a moderate lose to a dude with the biggest negatives ever.

The status quo is failing a lot of people. Like it or not

Let them sleep. Don't wake them up. The liberals think the only reason they lost was because of Russia & Rubes. They don't understand that they are about ten giant steps to the left of a winning electoral majority in the country. They kick ass in urban America and on the college campuses, though.....and they did get a Participation Trophy for the popular vote by running up huge margins in some of the 15% of the counties that Hillary won.

The Democrats just need to move a little further to the left. I think that an Elizabeth Warren/Kamala Harris ticket could do the trick in 2020. It would be damned tough to beat in California, that's for sure.

Bernie was the kid running for class president with the free pizza friday policy. Ignorant fucking college kids, and half brained rube progressives ate that shit up, and now we are stuck with trump. Thanks. Hillary said it in her book, and she was spot fucking on. She should of torn Bernie a new asshole, but she laid off and it cost her the presidency.

Meant to quote WSC...

How many of those Democratic economists were in the tank for HRC?

Or Wall Street generally?

Every other big-boy country manages to pull off healthcare for all. Our status quo is the radical notion

Forgot WSJ is fake news, Amirite?

There's a huge difference between the aloof HRC and the down-to-Earth Joe Biden. Hillary had no real personal in those states. Joe had been in bars and diners and schools in PA, OH, MI for decades. It's apples and oranges.

I also would point out that the moderate messaging the Democrats have been throwing out there has been losing at every level of government.

More of the same does not seem to be a logical next step

What is really fucking up the Democrats' thinking is their continuing obsession with the popular vote.

Think of a national election as a football team. To win football games you need strength at all positions. You can have the best wide receiver in the nation, but if the rest of your team isn't worth a damn you aren't going to win any games. The urban vote is that All-American wide receiver for the Democrats....but the rest of their team sucks.

Look at it this way, if Hillary & the Democrats couldn't take an extra $340 million & the powerful support of nearly all the national media and beat a fucking novice like Donald Trump.....who the hell can they ever hope to beat?

Democrats need to stop making excuses about why they lost an election that should have been a landslide win for them and start doing some soul-searching about why people in 85% of the counties in the country rejected them. Or they could listen to people like Elizabeth Warren & Bernie Sanders (and some of the idiot millennials on this board) and move even further to the left.

I'm telling ya, when you get your ass beat by Donald Trump in an election it is time to go back to the drawing board for some new ideas.

This is pretty much spot-on. Even ideas that Sanders has that are good in the abstract such as some sort of socialized medicine look like they come from somebody whose main claim to fame was stealing electricity from his neighbors when you look at the details of all his policy proposals.

BKF, you genuinely think the rural folks that voted for Trump did so because they want the government to operate MORE conservative economically? To slash their benefits? To continue funneling money to the 1% and further widening our income gap? Sanders and Warren aren't really any different from Obama/HRC on social issues, so that's the only conclusion I can make when you talk about further left.

Seems pretty obvious to me Trump ran as the most liberal economic Republican we've seen in a long while. In office, he's delivering on absolutely none of that. Repub voters are used to Repub politicans doing absolutely nothing for them in this area, but that Trump actually sought to win "common-man" votes on economic promises (unlike a Romney) is gonna cost him dear IMO

I think a lot of people believe that they want the government to provide them an opportunity to be economically successful by their own merit, and not just give them a handout. An alcoholic will vote for the guy handing out free beer, doesn't mean it is good for him.

Moderate democrats have a great message that would resonate well with the majority of America, they just need better messengers. Hillary lost because she sucks as a person, not because of her policy positions.

People are addicted to healthcare?
