Brian Williams "misremembers" Iraq helicopter shooting

I love this part here: Lance Reynolds, who was quoted in news accounts about the March 24, 2003 incident, wrote on Facebook, "Sorry dude, I don't remember you being on my aircraft."

So much this.

He was in an aircraft in an air convoy that was forced to land due to the lead aircraft taking fire. So what he misremembered it. The idiots on Facebook calling for his resignation and firing are part of a typical overreaction by some.

It doesn't sound like his was forced down though. He just showed up later. ETA: nvm it looks like they changed course due to the lead copter taking fire.

And also

In a 2013 appearance on David Letterman's talk show, for instance, Williams said "two of the four helicopters were hit, by ground fire, including the one I was in, RPG and AK-47."

no the meh is "this is a fucking dumb thing for anyone to get fired up about". no one is Edward R Murrow and it's not like the faith of the world is upon the shoulders of the 6 oclock news anchor. let's all roll our eyes at Brian Williams and move the fuck on

Incorrect. There were three Chinooks in the convoy that took fire. Brian Williams landed in a 4th helicopter about an hour after the original 3 were forced down. How do you "misremember" being in the Chinook that was actually hit by an RPG? In his appearance on Letterman awhile back he claimed that he is in one of 4 Chinooks in the convoy and that two of them were hit, including his.

Reminds of the lie Hillary told about taking sniper fire on a Bosnian tarmac. :rulz:

Bet he stayed in a Holiday Inn Express a couple of weeks before the event.

Bro obviously just convinced himself that this really happened.

Yeah. Probably got some incomplete information about why they were forced down and filled in the blanks incorrectly. Who cares?

My guess is the crew told him they had to divert due to RPG attacks and he incorrectly assumed they were the ones being shot at. It happens often in the media, even to the best of them. They get incomplete information and run with it. No big deal.

If you read the article, you would realize he did not obtain incomplete information. At the time, he noted that the copter ahead of his targeted. He had no idea why they were landing, but was told after they landed. He had accurate information then.

He changed the details over time.

Not sure he needs to be fired for it, but it's totally inexcusable and NBC should be embarrassed.

Yes, let's move on. Quickly. But what...a....tool.

"This was a bungled attempt by me to thank one special veteran..."

And instead of just saying he was straight-up wrong to do this, he reminds everyone of how awesome he is since it was all in the name of "thanking one special veteran".

Or he just flat out fucking lied. Just because he carriers water for a liberal news outlet instead of a conservative one doesn't mean we should be doing mental gymnastics to support his "misremembered" narrative.

Vast liberal conspiracy, obviously

He flat out fucking lied in the lead up to the war. Owes a bigger apology for that. LOL at thinking NBC news was carrying water for anyone other than warmongers in the 2001-03 period.
