Bruce Springsteen Cancels Greensboro Concert

I'm not sure it really matters too much what the law says at this point. In its current form it is doing damage. So the state needs to pour a lot of effort into controlling that damage, whatever form that takes...other than just being defensive and whining about the big bad media.

Nope. That's working for those in power, and will continue to do so through November. Nothing will change.

Brandi Carlisle, who is gay, will not cancel NC shows.

As I’m crossing over the state line into the beautiful state of Massachusetts where I was legally married to my wife four years ago - I’m contemplating Bruce Springsteen and North Carolina - everywhere I’ve gone I’m being asked if I plan to cancel my shows. I should start by saying that I want to be Bruce Springsteen when I grow up. Bruce has decided on principal not to go through with his concert because of thinly veiled legislation having been passed that permits the discrimination of my LGBTQ brothers and sisters in NC. I deeply appreciate this, and I want to say on my own behalf thank you for doing what you’re doing guys. These are massive shows and this is big business lost for NC - Bruce is not LGBTQ himself - but is bravely defending those of us that are. This is how we’ve seen the progress that we’ve seen. As artists it’s our responsibility to take cause against those who would oppress our brothers and sisters and defend them using whatever power we possess. Bruce is an artist, but on behalf of NC LGBTQ citizens, also is poignantly depriving NC of the big business his event would bring - well done.

For very different reasons I have decided not to cancel my North Carolina shows.

I’m a small artist, and I’m gay, many of my fans are gay as well.

To cancel my shows in NC would further oppress my fans who are hurt by this legislation, who worked hard to suppress it, and who need a place where they can come together. That’s why we intend to be in Wilkesboro, Charlotte, Asheville, and Greensboro this summer. We’re going to come together, let our voices be heard, not stand down, and make a joyful noise in the face of this insult of a law.

We all have a role to play here. Bruce is playing his beautifully and I respect him. In my own humble way though, I want to witness the protest through music.

See you in NC my friends. XoBC

Sure, it'll get them re-elected. What it won't do is return the millions of dollars that NC businesses are already losing. I thought money was what spoke to the GOP? I guess that was the establishment Pubs, not the Tea Party breed.

They don't give a flying fuck about "city money".

XHamster is shutting off porn to North Carolinians. The decline continues.
"We are appalled by the recent events that have transpired in North Carolina. We have spent the last 50 years fighting for equality for everyone and these laws are discriminatory which XHamster.com does not tolerate. As of today, access to XHamster.com is blacked out in the state of North Carolina until further notice. Judging by the stats of what you North Carolinians watch, we feel this punishment is a severe one. We will not standby and pump revenue into a system that promotes this type of garbage. We respect all sexualities and embrace them."

Jimmy Buffett says he'll play despite the "stupid law", but will boycott the state for future concerts

So is Bruce going to reschedule?

I don't see why he would.
North Carolina Gov. Pat McCrory says he wants lawmakers to restore the right to sue over discrimination in state court, but he's not challenging a new law on gender-specific bathroom access.

McCrory announced an executive order Tuesday in response to a wide-ranging bill he signed last month affecting the rights of lesbian, gay and transgender people.

His statement said that his order will maintain gender-specific restroom and locker room access in government buildings and schools.

He once again condemned a Charlotte ordinance passed earlier this year that allowed transgender people to use bathrooms corresponding to their gender identity.

The order would expand the state equal employment policy to include sexual orientation and gender.

He also says he will ask lawmakers to file legislation that allows people to sue in state court over discrimination — which had been wiped out by the law.

Adding sexual orientation and gender identity into the state equal employment opportunity policy seems like a pretty big deal. So does affirming that the private sector and local governments can establish their own non-discrimination employment policies.

A person who works at one of my clients knew somebody who found out about the cancellation on a plane coming from CA to go to the show.

Sucks for that dude, no doubt, but I'm trying to imagine a situation in which I fly across the country to see someone who played four shows in my state on the same tour, not to mention the billions of other tour stops that are way more interesting than GSO.

Many state agencies, UNC institutions already had adopted employment policies protecting their employees from discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation and gender identity.

"Affirming" something that wasn't in question doesn't seem particularly meaningful to me, but if one wants it to seem significant, to each their own.

Was there a news story about him? I heard there were people coming from CA and AZ who were going to meet up. Bruce Springsteen plays everywhere- to fly to Greensboro seems a bit crazy. Guess it just goes to show what a remarkable incline the Gate City is on.

That executive order wouldn't have been noteworthy before HB2, it's a joke now. A PR smokescreen from a scrambling governors office.

Similar situation. I know people flying in from Vermont and Connecticut who found out mid flight or mid drive.
