Looking for a nice resort in the Caribbean to take my wife for our anniversary. Good restaurants, nice beach, spa, pampering, etc... Any suggestions?

Excellence Riviera Cancun
Secrets Wild Orchid in Montego Bay
Paradisus Palma Real in the Dominican

All were exceptional.

If you want a true escape type of place, check out Peter Island in the BVI. The entire island is one resort and if they are totally booked, there would be fewer than 100 people there. They have a first class restaurant, fitness spa, a beautiful cove beach, and lots of activities you can sign up for, if you want. We always spend one day taking the resort ferry over to Virgin Gorda to snorkel.

They say that while children aren't forbidden, they are "discouraged". My wife and I have been there three times and have never seen one child.

Turks and Caicos. Just spent a week at The Gansevoort there. Beautiful beaches and water, fun activities, great food on the island, never rains, excellent spa, easilly accesible.

Atlantis is always fun and extremely easy to get to (Charlotte to Nassau direct), but it can be pretty crowded.

Secrets Maroma Beach or Secrets Silversands, both near Cancun.

Maroma's beach was nicer, while the pools at Silversands were nicer.

Nisbet and peter island are both awesome. Going to zoetry in a month for my honeymoon.

It's also crazy expensive.

Very true. The key is to rent one of the timeshare units so that you get a full kitchen so can make breakfast and lunch there, and then splurge for dinner at the restaurants. And you have full access to the pools, beaches, clubs, casino, etc.

My in-laws were researching a cruise and it seems like they were quoted $300 each just to set foot on the place for a day. Is that true?

We take one or two all inclusive trips per year. Last year I priced out a trip to Atlantis for 2 adults, 2 kids and it was more than 8k for a week. We ended up in Cancun for a third of that.

so overpriced. even more than disney.

Disney at least has options for the budget conscious family, but you're right that it can be damn expensive.

We did a week at Disney in February. Stayed at the Animal Kingdom Lodge, had the park hopper passes and the dining plan and spent about 4k after factoring in Airfare and incidentals that week. We could have saved about 1200 by staying at one of the lesser hotels, but we wanted our kids' first trip there to be extra special.

oh yeah, totally. disney usually makes up for it. but you know you're going to get hosed going in.

Atlantis is just a big fucking casino hotel with a shitty beach and mediocre rooms that are priced like they're something special.

That was the rare vacation where I knew I was going to get price raped and still loved every minute of it. Truly an amazing place to take young children and forget about being an adult for a week.
