You could stay at Morongo (near Palm Springs). You can play poker while your wife goes to upscale outlets or vice versa.

But on the topic of vacay, I'm heading to Sicily on Saturday for two weeks. Can't fucking wait.

Eating:

The Holy Grail of cannoli can be found at Laboratorio Passticceria Roberto. RUN DON’T WALK to get some.

By acclamation, the best restaurant in Sicily is La Madia in the seaside town of Licata.

In the awe-inspiring city of Siracusa is Regina Lucia. Sit outside and watch the people go by as you dine on the beautiful seafood tasting menu or other fare. The wait staff is experts on pairing your meals with the perfect local wines. The flavors will be remembered.

After the meal, you might get a tour of the Borgia Del Casale Palace which houses Regina Lucia. History, people watching and extraordinary food sounds like a perfect night.

Back Taormina is Villa Antonia. Overlooking the sea as you eat, you have been transported into your own little world. Remarkably fresh ingredients from seafood to pasta to salads make for a great meal.
While in Sicily feel free to jump off the beaten path to try a hole in the wall or two. You may not bat 1.000, but you will find a gem or two.

We're going to have a car for most of it (outside of Palermo), but we're staying in Palermo, Vittoria, Siracusa (Ortagia), Rovittello and Catania. We've only booked one reservation, and that's in Palermo. We plan to wing it for the rest of the time so thanks for the recs.

One of the best meals I have ever had was at Le Vallauris in Palm Springs. Old French place.

I’m pretty excited for fall vacations. My wife and I are going to Europe for two weeks in early November, then taking the whole family skiing in Colorado over Christmas break. Just have to make it through the next three weeks of work.

My wife and I booked a cottage for two nights with our 1 year old thats 80 minutes away for Friday night and Saturday night.

That’s about as exciting as it gets right now.

After Solstice Canyon you can keep driving to Paradise Cove. Nice beach to sit and have some beers/snacks. Parking is expensive but reduced if you buy ~$25 worth of food.

If you don’t want to drive all the way to Malibu, Los Leones is a hike closer to Santa Monica that has an awesome view of the water, coast, and DTLA if the weather is clear.

That sounds great. We looked into Sicily but didn't want to do it in the dead of summer and since we have preteen kids, fall trips overseas isn't a great option for us right now. Can't remember exactly what month we were looking at but lodging was tight.

We're leaving for a long weekend mountain trip tomorrow near Cashiers. Hitting up Costa Rica over Xmas, and Breckenridge in January.

Where you staying in Cashiers? Was just up at a house in the Old Edwards Club 2 weekends ago

Up in Glenville. We're not taking the kids to the Old Edwards Inn.

Well this is the golf club community the OEI bought. My dad’s partner has a house up there. Such a beautiful part of the state
