Clawson....

Has anyone watched a lot of Clawson era BGSU games? I know someone posted that they had some good running teams. Just wondering if their scheme looked the same as our current running scheme. It just seems so odd to have so few quick hitting running plays and everything else being these slow developing plays.

I watched about 3 BGSU games from last year. Bowling Green had a 1,500+ yard rusher last year. Very similar personnel groupings, play design, etc. to what you see at WF this year. Mostly 11 personnel out out of the shotgun.

Follow this link for a couple normal BGSU running plays from the MAC title game: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ud_OulVlVVI&t=8m30s

Too bad Clawson wasn't able to bring the BG offensive line with him.

I never knew that Steve Chase was such a pivotal part of our offense. We've gone from bad to God awful without him.

300 lbs is no magic number. The fattest looking guy on our line I saw get beat repeatedly. I'd take a nap, wake up, and there he was getting beat again. On one sack, he didn't even touch the guy. He dropped back in pass protection and just stood there waiting for the defensive lineman to hit him like it was practice. Dude ran around him and proceeded to take a dump on Wolford's head.

I'm talking DI talent....and 6'4" or taller as well, not some overweight tub of lard.....and "yes", I know they are hard to find but everyone in the ACC has them and it is the single most glarring reason why we are not competitive in the ACC....

I looked it up a couple of nights ago. Clawson's last BG team had comparable numbers of 20+ yard plays to Clemson and FSU. That, to me is one of the true measures of an offense. If you are getting multiple 20+'yard runs and throws a game, you will be effective offensively. We will get there. It just takes time.

You gotta post that stuff. Could have saved me the trouble.

Bowling Green did have a pretty good offense last year. But Matt Johnson is an amazing QB by pretty much every metric. I think he was top 10 in the country in YPA and 3rd and long efficiency. Which basically just means he's a stud. So I think you have to be a bit worried about BGSU's offense being pretty bad in all the other years without Matt Johnson playing QB.

Even Lobo has pretty decent F+ offensive efficiency metrics during the Riley Skinner years etc.

In general I just don't really like Clawson's offense too much.

But all the rest of his coaching traits seem pretty ideal. The program building / recruiting aspects are more important anyways.

I like an offense that wins games. But yeah, I've never been a big fan of spread zone read offenses.

I like an offense that produces positive yardage totals to keep the defense off the field and wins games. Claw has his work cut out for him.

He will get it done....eventually.
