Not sure if this has or will make it into the mainstream media, but pretty hilarious study published as correspondence to the New England Journal of Medicine this week showing the rates of firearm injuries are lower when all the gun nuts are busy at NRA conventions.

http://www.nejm.org/doi/full/10.1056/NEJMc1712773?query=featured_secondary

Among 75,567,650 beneficiary-period observations in the claims analysis, 14.3% occurred on NRA convention dates. The unadjusted rate of firearm injuries was lower during convention dates than during control dates (129 beneficiaries with a firearm injury among 10,883,304 persons [1.19 per 100,000] vs. 963 beneficiaries with a firearm injury among 64,683,254 persons [1.49 per 100,000]; P=0.004; relative difference, 20.1%; 95% confidence interval, 6.7 to 34.0). The findings were unaffected by adjustment for covariates (Figure 1).

Reductions in firearm injuries during convention dates were largest among men, in the South and West, in states in the highest third of gun-ownership rates, and among people who resided in the state hosting the convention. There was no difference in the proportion of crimes involving a firearm between convention and control dates.

These findings are consistent with reductions in firearm injuries occurring as a result of lower rates of firearm use during the brief period when many firearm owners and owners of places where firearms are used may be attending an NRA convention.

meh, trump met with the NRA the other day. this is probably some orchestrated bullshit they decided: "i'll come out against all this stuff, you guys act pissed about it, nothing happens long run b/c congress is a bunch of pussies and our base is happy"

Loesch was on Fox & Friends this morning, so she was basically talking directly to the president again.

Cops: Teacher who fired shot in classroom once tried confess to murder

Dalton police could not verify any of the information Davidson said on March 21, 2016, about having two friends kill someone on his behalf. Police ultimately took him to Hamilton Medical Center because he was having suicidal thoughts, according to a police report. The school was made aware of the incident, police said.

Then, in January 2017, Davidson disappeared from the high school campus after saying he didn’t feel well and leaving early. He was found hours later sitting on a curb about a mile away, unable or unwilling to respond to police, according to the report. He was again taken to the hospital and no further action was taken by officers.

Weird. He seems to have a good track record as an educator, but the recent events suggest he shouldn't be teaching.

Seems like a pretty big failure in how we deal with mental health issues.

In other news, here's Trump not understanding that these shooters buy their guns legally:

Georgia rubes really are going to drive Delta away from their state aren’t they? Goddamn I’ve never seen snowflakes like this.

Guns > Business

Surely there are some pro-business Pubs who are horrified by this.

House Speaker David Ralston, a Republican, bemoaned the combative tone some had taken toward Delta. But he put some of the blame on the airline, noting the jet fuel exemption wasn't controversial before Delta crossed the NRA.

It seems like they should at least.... pretend? that this isn't political payback? Because this seems pretty illegal.

Yeah I was trying to figure out the legality of it all. The fact that the tax break wasn’t in place makes me think maybe it’s not illegal because they weren’t actually taking anything away...but regardless it seems antithetical to conservative principals.

lol as if those exist anymore.

Probably has nothing to do with the "great" (per his tweet) meeting he had with the NRA in the Oval last night
