COVID Thread 2: Operation Ludicrous Speed ! (Super Political!!!)

At least it should be easy to distribute children’s vaccines through schools.

Yeah, but that isn't some bullshit political win for Biden. Confidence in our government to do anything has been obliterated. Under promising and over delivering on vaccine distribution would be a nice win for everyone.
Except Brad

Sorry, just trying to catch up here...those numbers are telling. And sad.

We can blame messaging but the big problem is people who are so poisoned by right wing disinformation and anti-vax. I also think there’s a problem with people’s risk assessment. Too many people still thin COVID is no big deal.

All of this is true.

And the messaging needs to be better.

I didn't realize how careful doctors are in general with what they say until you have a family member dying and are talking to them about the prognosis

Physicians should be both very careful and honest (among other things) in their communication with patients and families.

End of life considerations, especially, IMO.

After the disastrous last 4 years and the abysmal vaccine roll out over the last two months, seems to make a lot of sense to build confidence that your government has competence by publicly starting achievable goals and then achieving those goals. It's easy to say that administering 100 million vaccines is weak sauce, but we were supposedly going to have 20 million vaccinations by December 31st and we go to 2.1 million doses.

Good point.

Once we’re through this thing, we’ll be looking at the 21st century version of the Roaring Twenties. Woo hoo!

Wuhan marks its anniversary with triumph and denial

It’s true they’ve done a much better job containing/controlling the outbreak. And that an effective strategy requires good coordination, vigorous testing and tracing and ability to isolate appropriate people. All of which seems to be more easily accomplished in a society that values collective efforts over (or at least as much as...or willing to be flexible about) individual freedoms.

Just too bad about the tendency to rely upon state-sponsored disinformation, revisionist history, etc.

Well done trumpublican leaders. You have successfully joined the ranks of China, Russia, North Korea, and banana republics everywhere as purveyors of state sponsored disinformation, revisionist history, and blatantly lying to your constituents (aka fellow Americans)

Charlotte Observer just reported that the first case of the new, more contagious covid strain has been reported in NC - in Mecklenburg County. Whoopee.

tbf, this didn't start with trump/ublicans. But probably the worst it's been in our lifetimes, by a lot.

Sure. Reagan, Gingrich, Mitch, tea party becoming co-opted by evangelicals. Its all intertwined and has created an amazing new level of dishonesty.

I thought Trump was touting his vaccines as the way out of all the lockdowns and restrictions. If that was the case, it is puzzling his followers won't take his vaccine.
