CT Brasky #2: Back when the CT was real

I've never been but occasionally they get some solid concerts there. Also they just opened up a sportsbook.

Oh nice. Its a Thursday night in November so I'm sure we'll end up betting on some horrible Thursday night football game, but it will be gambling with the boys so it will great.

We're also going to spend Friday day drinking around Asheville before the concerts so if one of you could copy and paste all the Asheville talk and recommendations from earlier in this CT and message it to me that would be great.

Can’t remember if he’s been discussed here before but my brother suggested I listen to Tyler Childers and I’m really liking his stuff.

Childers is fantastic, one of my favorites. He’s scheduled to headline a festival in the summer with Isbell in Whitefish, Montana, last year that then that got pushed to this year with nearly the same lineup. Was very close to purchasing tickets last year before covid hit. They haven’t posted an update in quite some time so I’m not sure if it is still a thing or not but I don’t think I’d feel comfortable going just yet. Don’t think you could beat that location for a summer festival, maybe an awesome beach.

Anybody been to the Harrah's at Cherokee in the last decade? I've got a boys trip planned to head up there one night in November, and then go to Asheville for the Avett Brothers concert the next night. Its a Thursday-Saturday trip, which my buddy suggested, and might be the most genius thing ever. You have to use two PTO days for work but coming back on Saturday and having the rest of the weekend to recover seems like a game changer.

This trip is going to take the place of the Vegas trip I mentioned earlier. The crew is a little different and much more committed than my Vegas boys who we're too wishy washy for me to follow through on booking anything. Plus its just a much easier and less expensive trip.

I was there on Black Friday a couple of years ago and it was a decent trip. I’ve also been on a guided fly fishing trip on the reservation that was really enjoyable.

They just opened up a sports book and I’ve been thinking about planning a football season trip out there. I’ve never bet on sports before.

This is a good take. All takes should attempt to be this level of goodness.

Zach Bryan is a very similar artist. He has actually been accused of being too much like Tyler Childers, which i do not think is particularly problematic. Colter Wall and Cody Jinks are also solid guys who play similar stuff. I didn't mention Stapleton or Sturgill, because if you like this you probably know them.

8th seeded Shane Griffith won the 165 lb weight class at the NCAAs this past weekend for Stanford. What is truly heartbreaking about this is that this past July, Stanford said they were ending their wrestling program for good, even though alumni were able to raise 12 million dollars to keep the team going. Griffith decided to wrestle the championship match with his singlet inside out, so to not show the Stanford logo. The last match of this program ended in a championship for a sophomore. Good for him.

I flew to Whitefish in February and it was awesome.

Harrah's at Cherokee is exactly like you would expect. If you don't have lofty expectations and accept it for what it is then you will have a great time. Better weekend and evening crowd, but if you want just pure gambling debauchery then join the midday, chain smoking, dirt poor, mountain trash running through government assistance.

Yeah, there's no chance I ever set foot in that casino in Cherokee.

Nice, I’ll have to give some of those other guys a look.

man, I have NOT been in the last decade, but would always go past Harrah's on my way to SANTALAND as a kid and it was so sad

I'm not really a big country music guy but I went through a big Colter Wall phase last year (after hearing his song in a movie trailer), and then discovered Childers after that. Really like both those guys.

Tyler Childers is great - incredible voice and song writer and he puts on a hell of a good show. I've seen him twice and both times he rocked it. I've got tickets to Hinterland and he's headlining one night his year, so hopefully that goes down and I can see him in Iowa in August.

Yeah the sportsbook is big. Looking forward to betting on some degenerate level shit.

I can work with this. If we still talked to the majority of my mom's side of the family our family reunions would be fairly similar. That vibe is not unfamiliar to me.

Bro we used to go to Santaland too as kids. My maternal grandparents loved to go up there. And Gatlinburg. And Myrtle Beach.

Ok so yeah I should fit in just fine at Harrah's.

latest episode of The Daily is p awful for stigmatizing schizophrenia/psychosis in search of producing a scary story about "long COVID"

we had the Santaland chat a few months back -- it's the kind of tacky and borderline immoral shit I don't think I'd ever take kids to, but then I'm just depriving them of some real experiences

it's tough
