Danny Manning replacement search thread

Wake is due something good and maybe Currie will deliver. Just a few more days...

Currie knows his entire stash of goodwill is on the line with this decision. If he is forced to push it a year because he couldn’t come up with the buyout, he will lose all his support within the rank and file fans, and will be forced to work uphill for the remainder of his tenure. If he on the other hand DOES fire Manning, and makes a solid hire, he will be running downhill as all fans will be grateful to bailing out the one program that we all care most deeply about.

We are in good shape in almost every other sport that matters...just need to get bball in order.

The making a solid hire part is the most important part of the tasks at hand. We gave much evidence for what happens when the hire isn't great, or even good.

donaldross: "It's not about the last 20 years, it is about the next 20 years."

Everyone else: "These guys seem to have a general idea of how to successfully coach college basketball."

Honestly, both statements are important... But if you can get a Matta or a Beilein, you do it. I am skeptical that we can do it, but would be ecstatic with either.

Assuming Shaka is retained, which sounds probable at this point, is there a more attractive opening than Wake? If Matta or Beilein want back in we should have their full consideration. Can we pay them after eating the Manning buyout? That’s a different issue and where everything may break down.

STEVE F-ING FORBES

wondering if a guy like Forbes would move on this year -- would he see it as abandoning his team after he didn't get to coach them in the tournament and would wanna try and run it back?

That would be a hell of gamble on your career and a contract that can benefit your family for generations.

Yeah. I think it'd be, "Sorry Guys, I know we never would've thought it'd end like that but, Coach has gotta eat. See ya, keep in touch."

Forbes makes around $600K so likely could sign him with starting salary of $1.7 and he would be thrilled. Matta/Beilein would likely cost $3M minimum. That’s a big difference. Of course both are proven elite coaches at the P6 level so they deservedly command that income. Forbes is promising for sure but doesn’t have their track record.
