Deacon

You just have to be snarky and know-it-all. The REASON his numbers weren't huge is because of playing time.

Let's use your 32 mpg projections. Sarr would have had about 13.2/9.3/2.1 blocks.

Those are very solid numbers for an all star team.

If Sarr earns major minutes because of his defense I'll be ecstatic. Same with Doral. If they both earn major minutes it would mean the Deacon defense has significantly improved and that the team was winning as a result. It's not mandatory that the Deacs allow 78+ ppg. It's not even advisable.

Last year, Danny had to look at our players to decide how we'd play. We could play a little slower and be mediocre on D or play fast and try to outscore opponents. We had no one to replace JC if he got into foul trouble. Our offense would be greatly hindered if Bryant committed more fouls. Neither Austin nor Dinos were going to be good defenders. This put JC at risk as well.

Danny chose to make us an elite offensive team rather mediocre on both ends. It worked. This year he'll have more options.

Brandon has improved greatly and is a solid back-up. Chaundee is a huge upgrade from Austin. Sarr is a major defensive upgrade from Dinos. I think we will throw Doral and Sam out there to block the lane an use their fouls.

We should be better on D.

I thought that because Sarr didn't actually play those minutes, projections are useless? Which is it? (That, my dude, was snarky. The post that you quoted, less so.)

I was trying to clarify so that our expectations for Sarr remain reasonable. He hit two shots in a practice drill.

Again you didn't pay attention. I said "your 32 mpg projections". Plus, one would have to know that numbers in those games are deceiving. The French run people in and out. Thus you position about his numbers is off base. Those number were solid. And he was ranked as the #1 NBA prospect in the tournament.

He'll need to get stronger and get acclimated to the speed of the game to reach his potential.

The fact he shot 85% on FTs bodes well for him in PnP. You could see in his national games and in the drills that he likes to set picks. This is very unusual for a young player.

From those tourney games, it appeared Sarr could play PF. Now some others are joining the band for this concept. I would not be shocked to see him start by just after New Year's. One thing that could make it sooner is if Doral or Sam have improved a lot.

No question Doral looks improved but Sarr is faster to the ball and has better instincts in positioning etc. Also, Sarr is very fluid and appears to have been well coached. So he has to play somewhere as he gets stronger. Interesting whether Manning starts Mitchell W. or C. Brown. Queens' game less than 3 weeks away.

We have to start Chaundee. Mitchell W. will be a good coach if he chooses that, but has no business starting the ACC. Who can he cover?

Sorry is this has already been covered in this thread:

Who is WF's super-secret pre-season scrimmage opponent and when is the scrimmage?

Mitchell actually looked like an ACC level player at practice but he is still only 6 feet. Of course he is a favorite of Danny's so who knows. Couldn't get a good read on Chaundee but hope he gets the nod for defensive reasons.

And offensive reasons. All you have to do is run Mitchell off the three point line. Without having a threat like JC in the lane, this is much easier to do. Mitchell is more valuable going against subs.

Wilbekin will get minutes, but he's best suited to be a 3 point specialist. We will have some lineups that will benefit greatly from that skill.

I would love to have that happen. Having two seven footers on the floor would be like JACKSONVILLE 2.0. Remember Artis Gilmore and Pembrook Burrows?

Sadly, I'm old enough that I do remember that.

That really aged me but I had to mention Pembrook great name from the distant past.

The Chicago Bulls. SSSHHH don't tell anyone but Ayo (the player, not the poster).

Anyone know when/if single game tickets are available? I'd like to pick out a few games, with Illinois high on my list...

terrence thompson looks a lot bigger than i expected (and his listed height/weight). i've never seen him play a second of basketball but he looks the part of a 4.

Based on what we know about Manning's preferences for experience, I expect to see him starting, at least for our out-of-conference games. I expect Sarr to take over later in the season.

Sarr still looks like he needs some more trips through the buffet line.
