Call them structural flaws if you'd like. We are borrowing $4B per day. IMO, the house is burning.

Exactly. Our society pisses on their grandchildren so that some people can go into their third year of receiving unemployment. Well that and national defense. I'll acknowledge that bloated budget needs to be slashed as well.

My problem with defense is that a lot of the budget is tied up in research for future weapons systems, things that ALL politicians get involved with because it generates jobs for their respective constituents. A computer system made here, armor made there, etc. I think Gates has gotten the job started in the pentagon with trying to cut some of the crap out of the research and development, and continuing wasteful programs. Hopefully Panetta will continue it.
