If Bush nominated a political hack as Surgeon General there would have been 4 threads on it.

Obama does the same thing, only this guy is also not even close to being qualified AND a political hack...silence.

Looks like Obama nominated him in November. What prompted this outrage 5 months later?

What makes him a political hack?

Why do you think he's not qualified?

Murthy has mainly expressed standard gun policy positions held by trauma surgeons, emergency department staff, spinal cord injury specialists and others who treat victims of gun violence. On issue after issue, his views are far more representative of mainstream medical and public health opinion than are Paul's or the NRA's.

Murthy is a physician at Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston and a Hospitalist Attending Physician and Instructor in Medicine at Harvard Medical School.[9] He is also a founder and president of Doctors for America, a group of 15,000 physicians and medical students supporting Obama in advocating for policy that would provide Americans with more affordable, accessible healthcare.[10][11] In 2011, Murthy was appointed by U.S. President Barack Obama to serve on the U.S. Presidential Advisory Council on Prevention, Health Promotion, and Integrative and Public Health within the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.[9] The group advises the National Prevention Council on developing strategies and partnerships to advance the nation's health.[12]

Murthy also has experience in creating information technology solutions to medical-related problems.[11] He is co-founder and chairman of TrialNetworks, a cloud-based Clinical Trial Optimization System for pharmaceutical and biotechnology trials that improves the quality and efficiency of clinical trials to bring new drugs to market faster and more safely.[13][14] He founded the company as Epernicus in 2008 to originally be a collaborative networking web platform for scientists to boost research productivity.[15] Since 1995, he has also been a leader in H.I.V. prevention and AIDS education, co-founding and serving as president and chairman of a non-profit organization, Visions Worldwide, focused on that mission in the U.S and in India.[10]

Sounds pretty qualified to me

Not qualified? Not even close to being qualified? Are you fucking serious? STFU

You mean like the double standard of Cheney calling Obama weak for not threatening Putin over Crimea versus Bush/Cheney allowing Putin to invade and annex parts of Georgia without doing anything?

Before this gets derailed, how the hell can you say with a straight face that he isn't qualified?

Go, who do you think Obama should have nominated? Just curious.

Does even the most ardent Obamaphile think he's a good president? He's as bad as [Redacted].

When dealing with clinical research, the CV is weak. TrialNetworks is not revolutionary. It's a money generator that comes off with an altruistic mission statement. It is a glorified patient recruitment services firm.

The Surgeon General is as much an administrator as a scientist or doctor.

That's why people with strong clinical research CVs sit in labs and don't become the SG.

The Surgeon General doesn't do jack shit. WGAF who is in that slot?
