F is for Fascism (Ferguson MO)

If you don't think criminal activity won't explode if you disband all police departments, you are living a dream world even a three year old could understand is a dream world.

If you don't there wouldn't be hundreds or more Ahmaud Arbreys and other vigilante incidents across the country if the police are disbanded, there isn't enough sand in the Sahara in which to bury your head.

Nice bumper sticker. Totally ridiculous in reality.

It’s really surprising how dumb these departments are across the nation. The eyes of the world are on you, the scrutiny has never been higher and it’s one amazing fuckup after another. I’m not over to the fully “abolish all police” side...but if these numbskulls are the best we can do then why are they here.

We need to put a bunch of cops in almost every jurisdiction in jail and not in protective custody. If cops know they will go to jail and will be at hands of criminals they have put there or have beaten, things will change. If cops know they are going to be held criminally and civilly responsible, things will change. If cops know covering for bad cops will get them the same punishment as the bad cops, things will change.

And there needs to be better training and more real community involvement.

I imagine that there are three groups of people, people who have always known about police brutality and actively involved, people who don't really pay attention because it doesn't really come up in their day to day, and finally people that just don't care those criminals are getting whats coming to them. The biggest group is probably the middle who maybe are vaguely aware, see some stories here and there, but just doesn't register how extreme it is. You would think that at protests around the country over police brutality that there would have been a memo all eyes are watching be on your best behavior, the quick clean up your room and behave we have company coming over you can be a dirty asshole the other 364 days. Somehow police can't even do that, just video after video, story after story, making it one of the most effective protest to highlight what you are actually protesting about. Every day another video, another story plastered in the news, the internet, no ignoring it, its right in front of your face, its black men, black woman, white men, white woman, 75 year olds, 3 year olds the whole spectrum showing the overbearing out of control brutality of those that were designed to serve and protect. If you were a cop you couldn't do a worse job to sway public opinion against you and highlight what you've tried all these years to keep hidden.

I hope this makes people think about how many more protestors are being held on similar charges but don't have the benefit of having their assault at the hands of the cops recorded.

And at protests across America, journalists capturing police brutality and legal observers have also been arrested. Police refuse accountability as a rule.

This all sucks. No thanks.

not surprising at all. we all went to high school with people who became cops.

Social Justice >>>> Social Distancing

Think about how many people have been in prison on similar charges.

“Innocent until proven guilty” is a myth. If a cop says you did something, you are guilty. Then you have to hope there is video evidence to prove the police are guilty of lying.

Police and prisons grossly harm the public.

And they have to be tremendously and systemically reformed. The concept that abolition could work where we are in the evolutionary cycle is batshit crazy. To think, organized crime, street crime and vigilantism won't explode is beyond beyond wishful thinking and has no chance to work.

Police = organized crime, street crime, and vigilantism

Rj - do some research and education on what people mean when they talk about abolishing the police. People are here are not responsible for your education, and your reductio ad absurdum responses are not helpful to the thread.

Exactly. Basically needing a moonshot to exonerate you when it's your word against a cop's shows how broken this system is. And this doesn't even get into the social harm caused by the pre-trial incarceration of those can't make bail.
