Yeah, he's mocking these "worthless" kids for doing what any good civics class teaches them to do: exercise their right of free speech and peaceful assembly, which is what he supposedly fought to protect. I think he's genuinely worried/frightened that the government might finally do something about gun control soon, and he's a hard-core gun nut. He often posts pictures of himself shooting pistols, rifles, etc. as well as endless pics of him in uniform while in the military. I've thought for awhile that he has real fascist tendencies, based on some of his posts, but as I said earlier, I haven't seen or spoken to him in a long, long time, and have no desire to. I mainly keep him as a friend on fb just to read these occasional rants, and also the responses he gets, often from people I know, or knew growing up. It's disturbing, but also informative about what these types are thinking.
 
So his argument is that we need more kids with guns because it’s what Boko Haram is doing? Interesting strategy.

Buddy of mine who is a VA psychologist said veterans coming back with authoritarian tendencies is pretty common. Even while saying they served to protect our freedoms.

He's always posting from "secret intel" he claims to have had access to in the military that Muslims worldwide are constantly working destroy America, and Socialist Commie progressives (he sees no difference between LibDems, Socialists, and Communists, as they're all Marxists) are secretly plotting to help them. He believes, based on his experiences in the Iraq War and being stationed in other places in the Middle East, that 99% of all Muslims are exactly the same - they're nearly all America-hating terrorists hell-bent on destroying Western civilization. To save America, we need to toughen up, arm ourselves (including civilians) to the hilt, and round up and send 99% of immigrants back home (except for white immigrants from Europe and Australia, of course). Oh, and only military vets should be allowed to vote or hold public office, because people who served in the military are vastly superior to, and smarter than, our lazy, worthless, progressive/Socialist "sheeple" (he loves that word) civilians.
 
It really amazes me that so many right-wing gun nuts really believe, if the government turns against them, that stockpiling guns would give them a chance to stop "government tyranny." And, that's especially true of military vets, who ought to know better than anyone what the government could send against them. Jets, bombers, tanks, drones, and missiles are just a few of the weapons the government could send against mostly middle-aged, pot-bellied dudes with rifles, pistols, and maybe some semi-automatic weapons. Not to mention the US military is vastly better trained and better equipped for combat than any of these so-called militia groups. NRA member Billy Bob who is opposed to any form of gun control because he thinks the 2nd Amendment allows for him to be armed to the teeth to fight federal "tyranny" would probably be killed in minutes by a missile or drone while holed up in his double wide in the holler. It really is as if all of these folks have watched the original "Red Dawn" one too many times.

Right. And the people who think their guns could stop government tyranny are the biggest fans of defense spending and police. But they’re completely silent about actual government tyranny when cops kill a black man because he might have a gun.

Under armed militias fighting guerilla style warfare has been effective against our military forces in recent history. Probably less effective if your fighting domestically, but it is not like it hasn’t worked.

It depends on the restraint of US forces. Something tells me the moment Uncle Sam turns on its own civilians, that just war concept goes out the window.

I hear this a lot from conservatives. One of the real problems with this argument, as several others have already pointed out, is that our government is often limited in what it can do in Afghanistan or most other countries, partly by our democratic form of government, the need to keep world opinion on our side, human rights conventions, etc. If the US government ever became a tyranny and turned on its own people, there would be no such restraints, and every weapon in their arsenal (short of maybe nuclear weapons) would no doubt be used. Also, I have a strong hunch that most US gun owners, who are often older and out-of-shape, would not be as effective in fighting our military as would hardened tribesmen and people in poverty-stricken areas around the world. I grew up in a rural area and know a good many gun owners, and while they talk tough, I don't see many of them lasting very long against the US armed forces. The notion that citizens should be allowed to stockpile arms to protect us against a government takeover is an absurd delusion of the right, not only the practical sense mentioned above, but especially given that any government takeover in this country is most likely to be carried out by right-wing "patriot" types anyway.

Its hard to take these militia dipshits seriously when they keep voting to increase the military budget by billions of dollars, and militarize their local.police force. Your sheriffs deputy has a fucking tank and a 40 cal, good luck with that new rifle, Frank.
