Facebook Gold from Crazies

Libertarians are so cute. There was as much uproar over the Snowden revelations as there was over Facebook.

The only people making a roar over the Snowden issue was libertarians who make up a tiny percentage of voting age adults. That's why 95% of Americans gave it a big meh, which is fucking insane to me.

This isn't true. Lefties were all up in arms about this and were out against much of the patriot act when Snowden was still in college.

That's bullshit. Lefties are only for social liberties when they aren't in power, as soon as they get control Obama is extending the Patriot Act. Only politicians trying to stop it are libertarians I.e Rand Paul.

Not bullshit. Both Dennis Kucinich and Ralph Nader, two extremely liberal politicians (e.g., both want national health care), campaigned for president in 2004 on a platform that, in part, called for the repeal of the Patriot Act. Kucinich was one of the few Congressmen to vote agaist the act in the first place.

At the Dem debates in 2004 Kucinich stood out as the only Candidate (besides Bill Richardson) to vote against the Patriot Act and said the reason he voted against it was because he actually read it.

Here is a House floor speech by Kucinich speaking against the Patriot Act from 2011 when it was reauthorized.

Do a control+f search for "Patriot act" to see the Nader was call for the repeal of the Patriot Act on the grounds of civil liberties violations:

OK I give it to you. a fringe third party leftist and one socialist stood against the patriot act. The democratic party did not, and none of them were talking about it after Obama got elected...... Weird.

I don't know how it could be more clear that the Patriot Act is treasonous against the American people and ripe for abuse. Clapper stood in front of congress and and committed perjury under oath to the American people, got caught and nobody cared and nothing happened. It was on that day I gave up on the democratic party, and politics in general.

I never said the democratic party stood against it, I said lefties did. These guys are about as fringe in the Dem party as the Paul family and Gary Johnson are in the GOP.

Here is fringe Bernie Sanders trying to kill the Patriot Act before it was passed.

And again in 2005:

As for backing off once Obama took power, here is Kucinich talking about re-authorization in 2011:

And here is a transcript of an interview with Bernie in 2015 about NSA surveillance and the Patriot Act.

There are a few logical places where the interests of leftists and libertarians overlap - opposing government surveillance is definitely one.

Except that Libertarians come at it from the perspective of “don’t tread on me” and liberals come at it from the the perspective of “don’t tread on anyone, especially the poor and down trodden who have no voice of their own.” That’s not a catchy though.

I was unaware that don’t tread on anyone included showering people with government oversight, money, and bureaucratic ineffective government programs.

I'm not sure if there is discussion somewhere on FB and Zuckerburg's testimony, but this made me laugh so I am putting it here:
