This article is bananas. What an awful human being.
It's a long read but definitely recommend it. The article is all about Manafort's rise to power in DC and barely touches on the Trump campaign until the very end, fwiw.

Unless I am missing a really good constitutional argument, placing a check on the President's ability to fire a special counsel seems like a complete no brainer to me. The GOP's complicity in the coverup continues.
Republicans in Congress were divided Sunday over protecting special counsel Robert S. Mueller III, with two senators embracing plans to make it more difficult for President Trump to have him fired but a top House lawmaker declaring them unnecessary.
Sen. Lindsey O. Graham (R-S.C.) highlighted his proposal to check Trump's power over Mueller, while Sen. Susan Collins (R-Maine) said it wouldn't hurt to pass legislation along those lines.
But House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) said there was no need to pass such a measure, as he defended how the president and his team have navigated Mueller's probe into Russian meddling in the 2016 presidential election.
The GOP discord came just days after the revelation that Trump sought Mueller's ouster last June, prompting Democrats to make a renewed pitch for Congress to shore up the special counsel's standing. It underscored the growing split in the Republican Party between Trump loyalists and others who are becoming increasingly concerned with the president's actions.

Special counsel Robert Mueller is reportedly seeking to interview the former top spokesman for the Trump campaign's legal team as he investigates further into possible collusion between the Russian government and individuals on the campaign.
Mueller's team has reportedly reached out to Adam Corallo's attorneys within the last two weeks and are currently in negotiations over the terms of the interview, according to ABC News.
Corallo may have quit over concerns that others on the campaign team were looking for dirt on Mueller that would have exposed a conflict of interest for the top investigator and crippled the Russia probe, sources told ABC. Mueller's team is now interviewing top Trump staffers from the campaign, including former White House chief strategist Stephen Bannon, and has expressed interest in interviewing Trump himself.
