FTs weren't the only reason we lost that game

Based on season average, Wake should expect to score 19 points at the stripe in a game with 29 attempts.

Tonight, Wake scored 19 points on 29 free throw attempts.

It's food for thought. You can blame a single loss on many variables. This one isn't exactly unforeseeable...

Our older players don't know how to win. They've rarely done it. We don't have experienced guards who can put the game away at the foul line (CMM has to be taken out). Crab missed the front end of a one and one and stepped out of bounds. Greek missed two free throws. Crawford made a bonehead pass after a steal, and missed three free throws in the final minute. Devin receives an inbounds pass ( why???) and keeps the ball ( why??). Crawford should have missed the last FT , because there is no way UVA gets much more than a half court heave if he does. But we have him make it, pull the players back from the line and leave nobody ( such as Doral) go distract the inbounds passer. Neither Doral or Collins was in to defend shots from the wing. We lose to a wild bank in from the corner when Devin closed out late. A comedy of mistakes.

You realize if he misses the second free throw, UVA only needs a two with 4 seconds left to win the game. Plenty of players can drive the lane in 4 seconds.

They won the game on a long-range shot, when we knew we only had to defend the perimeter. Being up by only 1 opens up the entire floor for them to make a shot and/or get fouled.

Tyus Edney barely made it all the way down the court in 4 seconds off of an inbounds pass when he caught it running toward his goal. It seems unreasonable to expect someone to grab a loose ball, turn around, and run anywhere near all the way down the court in 3 seconds.

If we make 5 of 8 instead of 3 of our last 8 three throws, we win even with their amazing three point shooting in the last minute.

The problem is that the position of this average is 257th in the country

Chris Paul ran down the court with 4 seconds left and hit a floater in the lane to beat NC State. And he put the shot up with almost 1 second left on the clock.

We'd much rather be up 2 there than 1. If it was 2 seconds or less, okay, you have a point. But 4 seconds is plenty of time to get beyond the three point line.
