Game, Set, Match (WaPo's Grab Them By The Pussy Tape)

Obama tried and tried to get Republican input. They didn't play ball so he had to figure out another way. That's been the theme of the entire campaign. This era will be remembered for Republicans refusing to work with the first black President then nominating the leader of the birther movement to replace him.

Yeah, I think this is more in line with how history will view the Obama administration than 2&2's "Obama is to blame for all"

The best the GOP can hope for is that this whole Trump debacle blows up the party and eradicates the cancer that is the far right. Their best bet is to hope that it simultaneously excises the populist movement and social conservatives in one fell swoop so that the brand of conservatism advanced by politicians like Paul Ryan can become the preeminent brand of conservatism moving forward. The social conservative movement isn't going anywhere in 2016 and while the percentage of Americans who identify as populists will likely continue to rise, I believe that a conservative movement grounded in less government, lower taxes, and a focus on decreasing total spending would be well positioned in 2020 and forward to compete for the presidency.

GOP should also focus on trying to push the far left into bed with the far right stressing the similarities between the two. Fascism and socialism don't look much different in practice and I think the far left and far right are closer together in views to one another than they are to the American moderate of 2016. This grouping, aimed at decreasing the size of the umbrella the Democrats are under, would increase a more moderate GOP's chances of winning national elections.

Who does Trump blame for the groping accusations? Is it himself, is it the woman, is it the paper? Nope it's of course a Mexican.

Keep seeing the Trump commercial about "I am not deplorable" from different groups of people and the one thing I keep thinking is: duh it's not you, it's the other 50% of Trump supporters !

We would be in a much better spot right now if Obama had denounced Hillary when she gave him the chance with the private server and circumvention of FOIA (March 2015). Biden was well positioned to step in and give us an acceptable alternative to the shit-show we're now experiencing. Biden's polling was strong against all of the republican candidates. Interestingly, neither he or Obama or were willing to step in front of the Clinton steamroller.

What do you mean Obama wasn't willing to step in front of the Clinton steamroller? And do what exactly? Come out publicly before Biden made a decision about running and as the sitting president with 18 months left (at that stage) say "Joe would be the best candidate we can put forward" and ensure a divided party if Biden does run against Clinton?

I mean that's simply unrealistic. Nobody would do that.

There's definitely an evidence difference. The Trump tape is him describing sexual assault in his own words.

Clinton's issues were he said / she said, iirc. I was 16 in '92, so I wasn't paying total attention.

What makes the current Trump stories worse than he said / she said is they're defended and supported by his own words.

Dang you're old.

Welcome to the big 4-0 BYM!

I've been 40 for MONTHS now.

It's actually not that bad. Can't wait for Medicare / Social Security.

Awesome back and forth the last few pages. Compelling. Rich.

Just wanted to remind everyone that Rush Limbaugh says "Consent. Who needs it?"

Might as well push this here.

Donald's talk and actions make you sick? Don't like the way his surrogates are talking about women?

Two-thirds of the people are going to feel like the playing field was tilted to favor Hillary. On one side Bernie got enough of the popular vote to expose the DNC and it's super delegate system. Its only going to get worse after Trump is out of the way and people take a harder look at the WikiLeaks emails. It's also possible, even likely, that foreign adversaries have information that completely compromises her ability to represent the best interest of our country. Is there any question who she will put first if faced with such a scenario? On the other side, it appears the FBI played it soft on the handling of classified information on an unauthorized private server while the media seems to have a double-standard when it comes to outrage over sexual assault. In short, the majority of the country is going to feel somewhat disenfranchised, with at least 30% blue-in-the-face pissed-off.

Hillary does not even come close to having the leadership skills to bring us back together. We can only hope she rises to the occasion if faced with a real crisis but there's very little in her past to indicate she's more than a highly skilled politician with a severe lack of gravitas. The external conditions for the next president are going to be harsh. I doubt Hillary will put aside reelection aspirations and make any attempt to heal the country. Sadly, it looks like things are going to get much worse before there's any chance of improvement. The anger in the air is beginning to feel like 1968 except there are a lot more people feeling angry. Good luck Ms. President!

Maybe you should talk to Orin Hatch or John McCain or many other Republican senators who served with her. She worked across the aisle many, many times while she was in the Senate. But don't use facts.

The problem is the GOP REFUSES to work with ANY Dem POTUS now. The House GOP wouldn't even pass a roads bill that had over 50% of Senate Republicans vote for it. When the Dems had control of the Senate, McConnell set records for the use of cloture each year. Think about that for a minute. He used it more than when people were trying end slavery. He used it more than it was used during the Civil Rights Movement. He used it more than during Viet Nam.

Have the Dems ever had an industry that's sole purpose of destroying someone for over twenty years like the GOP has been doing to the Clintons? Hell, the leader of the original Arkansas Project is a conservative Republican who was considered by both Bushes for the USS, Ted Olson. Ted admitted the existence, purpose and the fact that it continued after he stepped down.

Maybe if the GOP acted like the Dems did under Reagan or Daddy Bush or even under W, things would get done. But they have so little interest in governing that they tried to kill Obamacare over SIXTY times knowing it would get vetoed. They had about a dozen Benghazi hearings. They had multiple IRS hearings even though the ONLY charity that was denied status was a liberal one.

Hell, Obama did something virtually no POTUS in the past did prior to the stimulus bill being offered. He went to The Hill to meet with Republicans. Before he got there McConnell and Boehner announced to the world, the bill would get ZERO GOP votes. They bitched about pork and made a list of two dozens projects they hated. Obama took them out. Still no votes. They bitched that there was nothing about taxes. Obama had 1/3 of the bill contain tax cuts for businesses. Still no votes.

When Obamacare was being created, Obama set up the Gang of Eight (2 House Rep/Dems, 2 Senate Rep/Dems). He offered meeting space in the WH. So he could hear what was important to them. No Republican EVER showed up. This was before and during the creation of the bill. Then the GOP cried that they weren't included. Obama had bent over backwards to include them and they spit in his face.

No POTUS had ever had the opposition leaders meet on Inauguration Day with the purpose of destroying his presidency before he had done ANYTHING.

But you blame Obama and Hillary not the GOP who were the most obstructionist Congress in US history.

Yeah, I think this is more in line with how history will view the Obama administration than 2&2's "Obama is to blame for all"

Trump's continued mass support, despite the fact that he is a lunatic rivaled in US history only by Obama and Hillary in his lack of fitness to be President, indicates that I will be correct.

I don't think receiving under 40% of the electorate's vote in an election that you lose by mid-to-high level single digits to someone who is one of only two people who, in your own words, is "rivaled in US history...by...[their] lack of fitness to be President" is going to be as good an indicator of the future as you think it is. If that's the kind of continued support the movement will see, Ph's post is certainly more closely aligned with reality.

Lol. He got their input and then rejected it, saying "I won."
Obviously their refusing to work on any form of universal healthcare was unacceptable. There is a difference between obstinance and blindness. How else would you explain the 20 different state level alternatives to Obamacare now being proposed by Republican congressmen? For some reason Republican Governors and congressmen aren't getting as much traction now with
repealing Obamacare "root and branch"
