General Election Thread: Two Weeks Out

I'd love to hear how Trump out flanked her in Mexico.

By going, and going first. LA and MX have offered him the opportunity to look Presidential and, perhaps more importantly, show energy that Hillary doesn't have.

Why would Hillary go to Mexico? You can't beat someone to somewhere they aren't going.

Those weren't real were they?

Images of Rudy and Jeff Sessions are all over the Google machine on sites ranging from Fox to Time. KAC must have had a lady boner for the 20-30 mins Trump looked presidential in Mexico City, but he shit all over himself again back in Arizona.

Have zero sympathy for KAC and Pence who chose to work for/endorse Cruz initially, but hopped on the Trump bandwagon late. Not like they didn't see the clownshow everyone else saw for a year or were turned away by Trump initially and settled on Cruz.

Interesting theories.

So Trump is visiting a black church on Saturday to connect with African Americans. The questions were submitted and screened beforehand, the session will be taped one on one with only the pastor, the campaign has prepared complete scripted responses, and the interview will then be edited to reflect what they want before being shown on some no name station. Why even waste you time, accept you are getting like 0% of their votes and move on to something more productive.

Just like his other calls to black voters, he's trying to appear less racist for moderate white voters. He wants to convince white people that he'll be better for the black community. (He's been criticized for relaying this message to crowds of mostly white voters. He was supposed to speak to the church, but that part was cancelled. Super controlled messaging.)

Might have to make some changes now that the script has is out, though.

Until Obama, GOP generally got 15% of the Black vote in presidential elections. Obama was well over 90% (~96% in 2012). Some morons pulled a number out their asses and claimed Ben Carson could pull in 17% of the Black vote and magically win the White House. Carson set up the upcoming Detroit meeting. Heard a Black Trump surrogate crowing that Trump was pulling in 8% of the Black vote, which is better than McCain and Mitt, but well below historical averages.

Black and Latino votes are gone now, so the play is for suburban Whites with four year degrees. They are well below Mitt's 2012 levels of support. If they fall off any more, may have to go hard core after undereducated Whites.

Interesting observation is that Conway manages Trump during the day and Bannon takes over at night. His worst tweets and rallies have been at night. Who will be Trump's night nurse as POTUS?

The Clintons, as slick as ever.

Bill Clinton's staff used a decades-old federal government program, originally created to keep former presidents out of the poorhouse, to subsidize his family’s foundation and an associated business, and to support his wife’s private email server, a POLITICO investigation has found.

Taxpayer cash was used to buy IT equipment — including servers — housed at the Clinton Foundation, and also to supplement the pay and benefits of several aides now at the center of the email and cash-for-access scandals dogging Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign.

This investigation, which is based on records obtained from the General Services Administration through the Freedom of Information Act, does not reveal anything illegal. But it does offer fresh evidence of how the Clintons blurred the line between their nonprofit foundation, Hillary Clinton’s State Department, and the business dealings of Bill Clinton and the couple’s aides.

The thousands of pages of newly uncovered records reveal sometimes granular detail about how Bill Clinton’s representatives directed the spending of taxpayer cash allocated by the GSA under the Former President’s Act.

Another Clinton lie:

The Clinton Foundation’s website suggests that there’s a strict wall between the foundation and the ex-president’s personal office. “All Foundation employees are paid for work through the Foundation payroll,” the website says. “No Foundation staff are paid for Foundation work with taxpayer dollars.”

The whole Trump immigration softening fiasco is baffling. Has been crystal clear for over a year that he believes the Mexican government has deliberately sent the dregs of its society to the US, that 11M illegal immigrants will be rounded up and deported, that a wall will be built, and that Mexico would pay for the wall. It's been the centerpiece of his campaign since June, 2015.

Trump campaign hires its third campaign manager in 3 months and the campaign spends a week saying there will be a softening on immigration and that will be unveiled in his AZ speech. Makes a last minute detour to Mexico, plays nice with Nieto, and proceeds to give a speech that reinforces his prior positions. Rudy's and Session's Mexico hats didn't get made between the time Trump left Mexico and Nieto tweeted that he told Trump wouldn't pay for the wall.

Why string people along for a week with some immigration softening that was never going to happen? Trump's base isn't leaving and doing more of the same doesn't win the election. Trump surrogates Katrina Pierson and Jan Brewer are morons, but why hang Kellyanne Conway out to dry?

Wikileaks could still fuck the Clintons and Trump might be able to survive the debate(s), but Trump's campaign is still a mess. They have one office in FL supplemented by two RVs. Mitt had 48 offices in FL and Obama had over 100.

Sad, but not surprising the Trump campaign has zero confidence that Trump can speak to a Black church unscripted, but what benefit does his campaign or the RNC get from leaking the story to the press? Hard enough for them to find even a single non-hostile swing state Black church, but why draw additional attention to the problem? Trump's campaign is a train wreck, but scary an insider would want to sabatoge the campaign. Get that many 'Pubs within the RNC hate Trump, but shining light on the bizarre precautions they've had to take doesn't help the GOP.
