Looking for a recommendation. Taking my Mom out for her birthday and this is what she wants. I found out Bimini's in HP has closed. Bonefish is my backup but I prefer local places.

WS is 20 away but Willow's near Old Salem is great. Their PEI mussels are just ridiculous. I could drink a vat of the cream sauce they are served with (you'll want extra bread for dipping). Best seafood in WS, imho.

Not a raw bar, though, so may not be what you are looking for (like HP ot GSO).

Thanks. WS is not out of the question. I'll check it out.

Don't go to Green's Supper Club. I would hate for you to ride all the way out there to find out it is closed.

Bimini's is now in GSO. Corner of Guilford College Road and W. Market Street. Strike that. Apparently the GSO location is now closed too.

I haven't been there yet, but the family that owns Libby Hill recently opened an oyster bar in Greensboro. Unlike the regular Libby Hill restaurants, I understand the oyster bar sells beer.

I haven't been in but I have gotten take-out from there. It is basically a raw bar attached to the end of the Libby Hill that is on 220. Has separate seating and does sell beer.

Anyone been to Europa Cafe and Bar on North Davie Street in Downtown GSO?

Europa has a good atmosphere for dinner. Bunch of 30 and 40 somethings drinking usually. Never had the mussels there.

Last time I had raw oysters in Winston was at Jimmy the Greek's and I was sick for a week. I tend not to eat raw seafood away from the coast - that night I broke that rule and I paid dearly for it.

Blue Moon Oyster Bar in Clemmons is a hike from HP but it's good

I eat there pretty regularly and didn't realize they had anything besides chicken/waffles, breakfast specials, sandwiches and gyros. Definitely a poor decision to get oysters there, of all places.

that's like George getting the Clams Casino at the diner on Seinfeld.

I'm thinking of Jimmy's seafood, owned by another greek. It's over by Village Tavern near Hanes Mall. I don't mean Jimmy and Greek's by university parkway.

Third vote for Full Moon, though it's probably out of the way.

We used to crush some steamed oysters at Jimmy's.

Yeah everyone else got steamed oysters, but I insisted on getting them on the half shell because those are my faves.. and I paid for it dearly. No one else got sick. So nowadays if I'm in Winston I definitely will avoid the raw bar at Jimmys.
