Just bought a couple of these:

Trump can't abolish ICE. They are his form of the South African Internal Security Forces who enforced apartheid.

Can’t wait to see ELC explain that one.

Not sure what you're expecting me to say here. I understand why she was detained. It shouldn't have taken them 2 weeks to release her. Did we fuck up or did Canadian authorities in providing us info, thus leading to the delay? I don't know. But it seems to me that casual transgressions like this in an ambiguous area should have been handled more expeditiously. Once she was transported to the facility far away from where she actually entered, I'm guessing she got caught up in red tape. No excuse. Once her mother came to visit with all the appropriate documentation, they should've put her on the next bus back.

LOL. Moderate Republicans get pissed when Freedom Caucus does to them what they've been doing to the Democrats for ages.

A lot of them are brown and black. What do you expect?

More anti-business practices from the Republicans.

AP NewsBreak: US Army quietly discharging immigrant recruits

Some immigrant U.S. Army reservists and recruits who enlisted in the military with a promised path to citizenship are being abruptly discharged, the Associated Press has learned.

The AP was unable to quantify how many men and women who enlisted through the special recruitment program have been booted from the Army, but immigration attorneys say they know of more than 40 who have been discharged or whose status has become questionable, jeopardizing their futures.

“It was my dream to serve in the military,” said reservist Lucas Calixto, a Brazilian immigrant who filed a lawsuit against the Army last week. “Since this country has been so good to me, I thought it was the least I could do to give back to my adopted country and serve in the United States military.”

The villainy is cartoonish at times, except it impacts the lives of real people. (In this case, real people signing up to serve in the Army.)

People who claim that they only have a problem with “illegal” immigration are probably working to restrict legal immigration.

14 month old boy separated from immigrant parents at the border, was returned after 85 days, covered with lice, had apparently not been bathed - part of lawsuits filed by states against Trump administration @LisaDNews reports @NewsHour tonight

moonz, Sailor, Angus, Junebug, and others, why do you support holding babies captive for 85 days without bathing them?

I just want to understand how someone could hold that much hate in his heart for a baby just because that baby isn’t an American citizen.

Because of tax money! stolen out of their hardworking and deserving hands! handed over to people who don’t follow the laws and immigrate to their shining city! That is bad because of fairness and whatnot

Good news recently discharged volunteer military foreigners, Mar-a-Lago is hiring immigrants...

Better hurry though, only a few spots remaining...

"President Donald Trump's resort, Mar-a-Lago, filed a request to the Department of Labor for 61 additional visas for foreign servers and cooks, according to a Job Order Records filed on Thursday and Friday."

Pregnant Women Say They Miscarried In Immigration Detention And Didn't Get The Care They Needed

In interviews and written affidavits, E and four other women who’ve been in ICE detention and Customs and Border Protection (CBP) custody while pregnant told of being ignored when they were obviously miscarrying, described their CBP and ICE-contracted jailers as unwilling or unable to respond to medical emergencies, and recounted an incident of physical abuse from CBP officers who knew they were dealing with a pregnant woman. Those descriptions were backed by interviews with five legal aid workers, four medical workers, and two advocates who work with ICE detainees.

The incidents were not limited to a single detention center. Three medical workers and five legal aid workers who spoke to BuzzFeed News all said they had seen — and some had documented — cases of pregnant women not receiving or being denied medical care in more than six different detention centers in California, Texas, New Mexico, and Arizona.

“It’s important that you know the trauma that they inflict on you … It’s not a place for anybody much less for pregnant women,” said Morales, who has been on antidepressants since getting out of detention in mid-March, while her case is pending. “It’s something too traumatic. It’s a punishment that I will never forget.”

“There was no relief. I was dying every day. ... Psychologically and physically you are sick,” she added. “I can’t even say how painful it is to be there without help, without support, and with the pain of having lost something so precious.”

'That was not the deal': McCarthy, Ryan renege on immigration vow

You may remember that earlier in the year, Republicans facing tough 2018 races joined Democrats to force a vote on a bill to protect Dreamers. They fell two votes short as McCarthy and Ryan convinced two members not to sign the petition in exchange for a vote on a guest worker bill before the summer recess.

“That was not the deal; the deal was that we’re taking it up regardless,” Ross said Monday afternoon, arguing that the lack of 218 votes shouldn’t preclude the promised vote. “There are those of us [who] need to go back [home] and show that we’re doing all we can to do what we said we would do."

After meeting with Ryan late Monday evening, Ross emerged with a different tune. Ryan and House Majority Whip Steve Scalise (R-La.) had promised him to not only hold the vote this fall, but try to muster the 218 votes to actually pass the measure. If waiting ensures passage rather than a mere "show-vote," he said, it's worth it.

Oh good, a new deal! They'll probably keep their end of the bargain this time.

BTW, this made me laugh:

The California Farm Bureau has been working aggressively to kill the bill, calling up not only McCarthy's office but other California Republicans whom they think might make a difference. In a July 18 email to California Republican staffers, the farm bureau’s Rolph warned that members would take a political hit if they back or sponsor the legislation. Rolph called E-Verify a “socialist” idea and said that even though some California Republicans had negotiated with Goodlatte to make the bill more acceptable to California farmers, they should stay away.
...

Some California Republicans didn’t take well to what one person on the email chain called “unprofessional lobbyist behavior.” Rebecca Keightley, legislative director for Rep. Ken Calvert (R-Calif.), responded to Rolph on the email chain by noting that Calvert backs the legislation and “I can assure you that he has no secret socialist agenda!
