Is there anyone that is not BuzzOut?

If by "one level above his capabilities" you mean "head coach at any level" I agree.

Early on I felt bad for bzz. I thought he took a job he was not qualified for and I blamed wellman for admitting as much during the initial press conference saying he was "going with his gut" and "not trying to win the press conference." That told me wellman Was arrogant beyond all reason. He saw the resume and pulled the trigger anyway.

At this point, without having actually met the man, I have zero respect for him. His constant excuses and blaming everyone else tells me he does not have the character, and culture, that wellman and bzz claim they are trying to base the program on. The regular stories like standing up the Nebraska coach are just further examples. Bzzout and it could not happen to a nicer guy. Wellmans refusal to correct the problem because of how stubborn he is tells me he shares a lot in common with bzz.

i am not not buzzout so much as tuned out.

I am a DC member. I'm a football seats rights owner who travels from several hours away to attend a game or two a year and fills the seats when i am not there.

and i no longer even check to see if we have a bball game coming up.

Probably because they're the ones forking over the cash to fix the mistakes.

This issue (the donors writing the big checks actually having influence over decisions) could be easily fixed with another successful OGBoards fundraiser.

I was Buzz In on the hire and Buzz In right now thru into March - at this point mostly because I think it sets up a great hire for next year better than if you can a coach 6 or 7 or 15 games into the year.

Still really like watching the frosh and I think they are playing hard. I think that CJ and Travis are struggling one because they are probably tired of Bzd, staff, struggling, etc., but I also think they are deferring to the frosh too much because it is the first time they are playing with talent that just might return a pass to them. It is like they are kids in a candy store but they won't take a fucking bite for fear they will get too full too soon. But again, I think that is part of it. Usually when you tune out a coach and are a star, you jack up shots for stats not caring who wins the game. Travis and CJ are not doing that. They are doing the opposite.

Great to see you back jaybone! Now about the preseason prediction of 19 wins...

Tired to keep explaining. I made no preseason prediction this year. None. I said 18 wins or bust to save jobs. That's it.

I call this FoxNews-ization of the country. You start with a narrative and work backwards and create "facts." Often the facts are musings, fiction, pieces of truth, etc... But you can find about 50 posts where I say I am making no predictions this year, followed by ultimatums to save jobs.

You were spot on last year and won a handsome chunk of change off some folks. I would like your opinion/guess on how many wins you think the Deacs might win this year as you seem to be fairly knowledgeable .

You voted 19 in the predict the number of wins poll.

I don't know anyone outright buzzin. But I do know a long-time fan who says he himself doesn't know enough about coaching to be able to judge so he defers to the sports administration, and he equates buzzout with people not supporting the team when they aren't winning.

Also knew a guy who was on the fence last year but willing to give the man a chance, until he actually met Bzz, at which point he started really feeling like his personality wasn't what a major head coach's should be.

I may be wrong, but Wellman is probably safe for now if he cans Bzzz now and forces change in the football program. Wellman is well connected to our wealthy donors. He has good relationships with them, as he knows how to cater to them. When people know each other well, they are hesitant to turn on them unless there is an event that brings necessary change to the surface. At this point, Bzzz is the critical thing that Wellman must manage. Time for Bzzz out.

We also have to remember that he obtained major contributions for the scoreboard and the Sutton wellness center. He gets things done. He has connections with NCAA selection committee. He is well known nationally. My guess is that his retirement is "managed" over the next two or three years. By my math he is conveniently 64 years old.

Lastly, what is the truth regarding Bzzz and Wellman? I know they worked together many years ago, but are they truly long-time friends or is Bzzz just someone that Wellman knew?

Does Bzdelick have any positive quality (as a coach)? I can't think of any.

"I know he's hard-nosed. He preaches defense, which I think with any team, is going to be the biggest key to success, getting them to play defense. He's had success with the different schools he's been with. I hope he can bring that to Wake and get us back on the right track."
- Tim Duncan (Class of 1997), San Antonio Spurs

"Coach [Redacted] was my first coach in the NBA. We learned a lot with each other. That first year, we made it to the playoffs after only winning 17 games the year before. He did a good job here and I enjoyed playing for him.
- Carmelo Anthony, Denver Nuggets

"Jeff is very highly regarded in the NBA and could have had a long career in this league if that is what he wanted. It is a great hire for Wake Forest. He will bring energy and enthusiasm to the team along with a ton of experience. Wake Forest has hired a good man for the long run. Deacon fans will be pleased with Jeff's ability and energy. He has a Wake Forest-type personality. It takes a special talent to be a Demon Deacon, and Jeff has that talent."
- Pat Williams (Class of 1962), Senior Vice President, Orlando Magic

"Jeff was an instrumental part of the Miami HEAT in the early years. He was an incredible resource and played a key role in us re-launching the organization. He was a very hard-working and dedicated scout and then as he has moved on in his career has become a very good head coach. I wish him nothing but the best. Wake Forest has picked the right man."
- Pat Riley, President, Miami Heat

"Jeff [Redacted] is one of the smartest, most knowledgeable, hardest working coaches I have ever worked with. His teams in the NBA and college have achieved beyond their talent levels. Recruits to Wake Forest will play for a coach who was successful in the NBA for a long time and will teach them what they need to know to make it to the NBA."
- Stan Van Gundy, Head Coach, Orlando Magic

"Wake Forest has definitely hit a grand slam with Jeff [Redacted]. I've known Jeff since we worked on the same staff at Davidson College back in the late 1970s, and I've always respected how hard he has worked at every step in his coaching career. People around the ACC will find out very quickly that Jeff is an outstanding basketball coach."
- Rick Barnes, Head Coach, University of Texas
"Jeff [Redacted] combines an incredible work ethic with a razor-sharp basketball mind and will certainly be a credit to Wake Forest both on and off the court. In our 30 years of coaching, he ranks at the top in his ability to relate to players and develop programs."
- Gregg Popovich, Head Coach, San Antonio Spurs

"Jeff [Redacted] is one of the top coaches in the country, and one of the most prepared and experienced. Jeff may be quiet and soft spoken in demeanor, but he is also an intense competitor that understands the pursuit of excellence on and off the court. Jeff has always stressed trust, hard work and togetherness, and he has always been about the players first. From the NBA to college, Jeff has seen it all in this game, has handled everything with class, and has been successful at every stop. Wake Forest got a good one in Jeff [Redacted]."
- Jay Bilas, ESPN Basketball Analyst

"What a wealth of experience Wake Forest is getting with this hire. Jeff has been a head coach in the NBA, a college assistant and a college head coach -- at very different types of schools. Jeff has been an outstanding coach and person in all of them. Wake Forest is getting a terrific coach in Jeff [Redacted]."
- Mike Krzyzewski, Head Coach, Duke University

"I have complete confidence in the leadership at Wake Forest University. I know decisions made are done so to support the best interest of the students, athletic department and University."
- Josh Howard (Class of 2003), Washington Wizards

"I'm very happy for him. I had an opportunity to work under Coach [Redacted] in Miami. He was very passionate and very hard working and did a lot for me while I was at Miami. Then he moved on and coached a little bit in the pro ranks and then went to college and I think he's going to do a terrific job. He's very knowledgeable about basketball, very hard working and just an extraordinary human being. I couldn't be happier for him."
- Dan Majerle, Phoenix Suns Assistant Coach

"Jeff is a great coach who I thought did a good job in the NBA when he had the opportunity. He has visited us at training camp in the past and I have enjoyed spending time with him. He is a nice guy, and I wish him the best of luck in his new position at Wake Forest."
- Jerry Sloan, Head Coach, Utah Jazz

"I think Coach [Redacted] is a very talented coach. I had a chance to work with him my first year in Denver. With his insight and knowledge of the game, I can definitely say he's going to be a head coach for a very long time."
- Marcus Camby, Portland Trail Blazers

"Jeff [Redacted] is a coach's coach. He is in the select company of people who have been successful at the college and at the NBA level. And, after stints at Colorado, Air Force and Northwestern, he'll understand and embrace the unique athletic and academic culture of Wake Forest University."
- Fran Fraschilla, ESPN Basketball Analyst

"Jeff [Redacted] will be a great addition to the Wake Forest program. He brings a ton of knowledge and experience having coached in the NBA. His coaching style and understanding of the game will help Wake Forest achieve success not only in the ACC, but on the national level as well."
- Flip Saunders, Head Coach, Washington Wizards

"With Jeff [Redacted] there's a level of preparation and organization that he brings to the table. He brings a brandable style of play at both ends, especially on offense where he looks for versatile players with high basketball IQs."
- Dave Telep, Scout.com

"I played for a lot of guys in my career. Jeff was terrific. He has a terrific basketball mind, and he comes from the tutelage of Pat Riley. He knows hard work and discipline."
- Jon Barry, ESPN Basketball Analyst

"I am really happy and proud of Jeff. This is so well deserved. Jeff is not only a terrific coach, but a great person as well."
- T.R. Dunn, Houston Rockets Assistant Coach

"I think the world of Coach [Redacted]. He's an impeccable X's and O's coach. He has built the program at Colorado to the point where it is really going to take off next year. Also, his characters and values are second to none."
- Bill Hanzlik, Former Denver Nuggets Player (1982-90) & Head Coach (1997-98)

"I have complete confidence in the leadership at Wake Forest University. I know decisions made are done so to support the best interest of the students, athletic department and University."
- Josh Howard (Class of 2003), Washington Wizards

DEFINITELY stoned when he said that.

That is the most non-committal endorsement ever, I love it.

Those quotes are still jaw dropping to me. How can so many well-respected people in basketball be so wrong? My only conclusion is that Bzzz has pictures of all of them at a horse show in Tijuana.

It's very unlikely we reach 13 wins this year. If we go 3-2 for the rest of the preseason, it will put us at 6-6. If we get lucky and go 4-1, we will be 7-5.

MD is much better than we thought they would be.

VT is better than we thought they'd be.

Miami is looking very good.

Clemson's only strength is inside. That's our biggest weakness.

UVA should be good games. They play slow and have no inside threat.

BC sucks.

All in all, it will be tough to reach six ACC wins. This makes 13 tough to reach.

It will take someone miraculously improving to get to 15 wins or for [Redacted] to figure something out he has yet to show the ability to do.

What he has shown is the ability to scout.

Devin showed a lot yesterday. With the right coaching, he could be a 15/9 (10) type of guy by his junior year. He can drive. He's tough and has a really good motor. His FT motion has even improved.

Codi is more of a SG than PG but is very, very talented. He needs to be freed up to show his ability. He could be an elite scorer. He needs to be more demanding of the ball and less deferential. He needs to create more contact like CJ does.

Tree is a classic Point Forward. He is a match up nightmare. He needs to be taught a little bit about when to take a chance. At this point his great vision and ability tends to let him try too hard at times. Once he learns to pick his spots and when to takeover, he's going to be a really good player. His D is amazing. He needs to be told to be more aggressive on offense and more confident.

Madison should develop into a really good backup PG. His D can impact games from the bench. Like the others, he needs to build more confidence on offense.

Cav shows some good things. He's willing to take the ball into traffic. Like Codi, he needs to create more contact to get to the line more. Contrary to what some think, he has a very nice stroke. He needs to stop thinking about taking the open shot. Just get set and take it.

Moto has a great deal of athletic ability. He needs to learn the game. He just hasn't figured it out yet. He's in between plays too often. The problem is playing catch up at this level. The good thing is if the light goes on he could have explosive improvement.

Dre is very athletic for a 7'1. He needs some weight. It's too early to say much about him.

A perfect example of [Redacted]'s lack of ability to coach was our zone trap. We have the players to do this especially with Tree and Moto. Tree was playing the point but no one knew where to rotate and trap.

[Redacted] had a good idea, but didn't know how to teach it to be implemented.

If we got an inspirational coach he has a base of talent to start his tenure. He'll need to get a couple of stars. But he will have some pieces.
