Is Wake Forest worth the money?

Back in my day, Wake was considered a bargain. As in, recognized by someone like Forbes or Barrons, forgot who it was.

That day seems a LONG time ago given that 60k/year pricetag.

Among private universities, we actually have some of the best value. Hence as I've always said and many have likewise mentioned, this is not just an issue for Wake Forest, but rather all national private universities.

Yeah, try compaing Wake to Bucknell, which costs the same and is the #29 ranked Liberal Arts College, per USN&WR.

Or Lehigh, which is #38 on the National Universities list.

If you care about the rankings, Wake is a good value comparatively and is competitively priced with other private schools. But I agree that at some point something's got to give.

One thing worth pointing out is that state universities have raised tuitin and fees over the past decaded due to the space that private colleges have given them and due to the recent decline in tax revenues due to the economic downturn. State Universities are filled with students who are taking on a disproportionate amout of debt as well.

if you think Wake has some amazing national rep outside the south and maybe a small upper echelon of people, you're nuts

If Wake has an amazing national rep within the South, then it's already head and shoulders above Davidson which has a very limited brand due to its lack of alumni. Wake also has a lot more upside and potential than Davidson over the next 20 years.

I don't doubt that it can be a good value for students that will recieve substantial aid. According to the report: "The Princeton Review chose the schools as its 'Best Value Colleges for 2011' based on criteria covering academics, cost of attendance, and financial aid."

I would like to see a study on "Best Value" for families falling in the $150 to $250k/year range, which will take them out of most need-based aid. I doubt WFU or most other private schools would make the list. Historically, however, WFU would have been near the top of such lists.
