Ish Smith, 10 year NBA Veteran, Starting Point Guard for Washington Wizards

Dino freaked out and demoted Chas to start a frosh. Things like that impact a team.

Mind blowing that Ish is scoring and shooting so well. He had a difficult throwing it in the ocean when he was at Wake. Nonetheless he was a solid player and a fan favorite...rightly so.

He was only about 10 years from being an effective jump shooter.

65% from the line, but that's better than his % his first few years in the league. Good for him making it in the NBA.

those 4 guys will have received just under $240 million in NBA pay through the end of this season

We lost to Cleveland State because good teams lose to worse teams in the tourney sometimes. It happens all the time.
Ask coach K or Bennett.

That shot he hit against Texas is the stuff of legend.

Funny to see him in the same roster with wall. Ish was the only guy in America that could (almost) keep up with him that season

And before that he lost to #12 seed Miami in the first round of the ACC Tournament by 21 points.

The postseason game before that was Cleveland State.

The postseason game before that losing to #7 Maryland by 11 as a #2 seed.

The postseason game before that was losing to #9 seed FSU by 10 as a #8 seed.

So pointing out the one postseason Dino won to claim he didn’t get destroyed in the postseason all the time is ridiculous.

Thanks for the memories.

I remember watching him at summer League before he showed up on campus. I was blown away by his speed. Such a nice dude too.

Was going to say this. Ish is a genuinely nice guy. Proud to have him representing Wake.

It was painful but revisionist history is worse. That Texas game was more like an 11 vs 11 seed game and we barely won. Every other Dino postseason game was a double digit loss. The last time we beat a top 8 seed in any tournament was the Harvey Hale game, the OT win over #6 Tech in the 2006 ACC Tournament in Tampa.

IIRC, the criticism of Brandon for controlling the ball too much is the same that some had about Ish 10 years ago. And no, that is not a prediction that Brandon is headed for a lengthy pro career. Ish, while no CP3, was a notch or 3 above Brandon when it came to playing point.

Ish had and has elite speed, even by NBA standards. Opposing teams have to respect that and hustle back on defense. Otherwise, Ish will have a one on none fast break layup in three seconds.

Second best PG of that draft was also on that Kentucky team, Bledsoe. Easy case to be made Ish was the third best, though he went undrafted.

That first Calipari draft class with Wall, Cousins, Bledsoe, and Daniel Orton, good lord.

Lol I wasn't being revisionist, i was simply referring to NCAA Tourney, which is what the discussion had been around. To say he was destroyed all the time is also ridiculous.

And yes if you throw in his ACC tourney then it looks a little worse. So he got badly upset in an NCAA game and a ACC tourney game. He won a toss up with Texas and lost a toss up with FSU.

Did he underachieve, yes. Id still take him in a heartbeat over the trash coaches we have thrown out over last decade.

He had one postseason win on a buzzer beater. Otherwise he lost by double digits. That's getting destroyed.
