There used to be a general deal - yes I am working class but pay me enough to raise my kids and buy a house and send them to college and little vacation each year, and show me a modicum of dignity and otherwise you can fuck me over on my wages.

That shit didn't transfer over to the modern service economy, and being working class is now framed as "not trying hard enough, pull up your bootstraps."

So Trump comes along and pays lip service to the working class while pitching - to their faces - tax and labor and healthcare policy that is bad for them. At least the dem candidate was genuine when she proposed federal funding for education and the 'jobs of the future,' as was the outgoing incumbent president. (But Solyndra!!)
