The lesson, as always, is: if we are recruiting a kid for a scholarship in the spring of his sr. year of high school, he probably sucks.

"In the past two years, Ajayi committed to Wyoming then later transferred to Florida International before settling at Collin County, the Lagos-born big man now looks to have sorted out his College career, and should be ready to contribute immediately with three years of eligibility."

Averaged 10 and 10 in his frosh year at Collin Country JUCO! He actually still has 2 years of eligibility left... wow.

Some of the guys Skip recruited (but did not land) in the spring of their senior year turned out to be pretty solid ball players. Patrick Beverley even made it to the NBA this year.

Pretty sure Westbrook is on that list, too.

But Westbrook was #66 on Scolut (http://wakeforest.scout.com/a.z?s=192&p=9&c=4&cfg=bb&pid=88&yr=2006 ). That's not the same as recruiting a non-rated player. Plus he was jumping up the charts at that point.

He jumped up to #66 in the final rankings for that class. I don't believe he was in the Top 100 until they revised them the last time.

It was not the same as a highly rated and sought after recruit like Lance Thomas waiting til the spring to make a decision.

He was exploding his senior year. You can't compare him to someone like Lekan or Casey Crawford or others.

maybe he just really, really does not like Fields and wanted to get as far away as possible.

Fields first year stats at Bradley.

0.3 points, 0.3 rebounds and 0.3 assists per game

He scored 9 pts the entire season.

You're splitting hairs with the initial comment which was "if we are recruiting a kid for a scholarship in the spring of his sr. year of high school, he probably sucks."

Looking at the dates on the top of the scout articles it looks like they finally ranked Westbrook a few days before he committed to UCLA in April of his senior year.

All I was trying to point out was there actually are legitimately talented late bloomers that we have been involved with that didn't emerge til the spring of their senior years. Westbrook and Beverley are just a couple of examples of that.

I'll put it this way; the last spring commitment we received that ended up being a contributor to a winning team was Darius Songaila.
