When I wrestled we did a lot of pull up pyramids. 1 5 10 15 10 5 1. Overhand, underhand, alternating grip, reverse alternating grip.

I don't think I could crack 5 overhand at this point.

I may give that a try. I don't know about doing 1 pullup to start, but stacking a pyramid 5 / 8 / 12 / 8 / 5 / 3 or something like that seems fun.
 
I'm not particularly strong or athletic really, but Ive always had one of those pull up bars that you can clip into a doorway and tried to keep up with it. Like wolverine said if you keep up with it you can do more. I don't really like lifting weights so I just do pull ups, chin ups, push ups, dips, knee bends, lunges etc then hit the booze ;)
