Manning's small ball is not working!

The current record of 2-4 is the real proof that Manning's use of the 4 guard approach is not working.

Further proof is seen in a simple look at an astounding stat.

My old high school coach said time after time that a layup was a higher percentage shot than a shot from 20 feet from the basket.

This fact is evident by looking at the field goal attempts and field goals made by Moore and Crawford. Both have made 26 field goals. The major difference is that Moore has attempted only 31 shots while Crawford has attempted 71. Yes, Crawford has missed 40 more shots than Moore while making the same number.

You would think that the first Chapter of Coaching 101 would tell you to change your approach and let Moore attempt more shots, especially since he is shooting 84% vs. Crawford's 37%. Instead, Manning continues to use Moore in setting high ball screens near mid-court(further exposing him to fouling) instead of trying to establish a low post presence. In the current offensive sets the only time Moore gets the ball is on lobs. Of course, Moore is not and probably will never develop the offensive moves that John Collins had, but if he continues to dunk about 75% of his attempts it may not matter.

So far Manning refuses to change and uses the small ball approach which has proven statistically wrong.

Generally speaking I like experimentation and out of the box thinking. The correct way to try the 4-guard offense would have been to try it for a couple of 4 minutes spells during each half in the first game. After the game you evaluate and maybe try it again the next game. After a few games you have a pretty good idea if it is worth continuing.

With that approach the team is likely 4-1 instead of 1-4. With the NCAA being a difficult but not impossible task for a team of Wake's caliber you simply cannot afford to throw away games early in the year.

So we lost our entire forward line of 6'10" 235, 6'10" 245 and 6'6" 220 and we all knew - or should have known - there was nobody capable of replacing that size. That's why Manning signed the 6'7" 215 grad-transfer. And it's really time to cease the chatter that Moore and Sammy ( wherever he is ) are somehow close to viable options at this level of play.

We are guard heavy - to say the least - a missmash squad of 5 guys 6'0" to 6'5".

Haven't checked, do we play Pitt twice ? Sure hope so for maybe 2 more wins cuz otherwise it'll take a miracle to get 8 wins this season with such a small and unbalanced roster.

The correct way to try the four guard offense is have four better guards.

My fraternity brother played high school ball with Keyshawn in Gastonia and he told me this. Keyshawn is very close with him and he even gave us tickets to the Duke game in the Joel last year.

But we also know Manning has a much higher standard for his bigs than his guards.

Also in practice, the four guard lineup goes up against walk-on guards and/or forwards.

I mean, basic math makes it hard to practice a four guard lineup effectively.

A 4 guard line-up might work if one was named Josh Howard and another was named Charlie Davis and another named Chris Paul and another named Jeff Teague.

But 4 guards that are essentially the same in size and who hang around the perimeter waiting for open spot up jumpers and cannot create their own shots or penetrate and finish or defend well or rebound...well, that is the prescription for disaster.

Totally agree with most of what is posted here. In Manning's defense he(and most of us) thought our guards would be the strength of our team. Except for some contribution by Woods, they have been abysmal. Don't know what the heck has happened to Crawford. In today' paper he mentioned we need to get the ball to our bigs more. Hopefully we an turn things around.

It appears that the Journal beat writer agrees that Moore should be getting more shots per his article in todays paper. He also placed emphasis on Moore's field goal percentage and the fact that he would be leading the nation in shooting if he met the minimum number of shots made per game.

Has Doral stopped smoking yet? Can only make it up and down court five times and he's done.... Unless he has an undisclosed medical condition....

The doral moore takes on this board continue to baffle me

Guys, nobody is saying Moore is the second coming of Duncan or Collins, but so far, Moore(shooting at 84%) appears to be a better option for additional shot attempts than Crawford(37%), Childress(39%), or Wilbekin(33%).

Have any of these 3 guards made 11 shots in a row?
