Meanwhile In Colorado

Did he have to build the foundation by tearing down the prior structure and digging such a deep basement?
Isn't that exactly what Wellman asked him to do? Re-build the foundation (culture) by getting rid of the problems...but oh yeah keep the coaches and make sure all the current recruits stay. Wellman didn't exactly put him in a great position, and Wellman certainly didn't pick the right coach just to "tweak" the team if that was the goal.

It's pretty obvious Wellman thought Dino was THE problem. His goal was to keep the coaches and players and then bring in basketball Grobe ([Redacted]) to coach everyone up with a quick turnaround. Ooops.

And it put us in a bit of a bind. The coaching staff had to change their recruiting targets leaving us with a bad year 2 recruiting class. A coach would have otherwise brought his coaches and recruiting targets in right out of the gate. The players and recruits Bz inherited didn't match Bz's personality so they filed out the door. We pretty much ended up at bed rock by the end of year 2.

Rock bottom will be the moment before we fire Buzz.

Well...with this news there is another way we can look at this. Maybe Bzz is like that guy who every time he ends a relationship with a girl she ends up marrying the next guy she dates. Who knows? We might find our long term coach right after Bzz

Post Bzz Nuggets had George Karl
Post Bzz Colorado has this guy
Post Bzz Wake gets who?

[Redacted] hasn't built anything remotely close to resembling a foundation here at Wake. Yeah, nothing says foundations like 8 player recruiting classes! Long-term welfare of the program, my ass, Ron!

Colorado was trying to come up with a buyout to get rid of [Redacted]. But Wellman swooped in to hire Buzz. All of a sudden Colorado was relieved of their burden and instead of paying a buyout, they were paid to release him. Now going into year four, Tad Boyel is a hugely popular and successful coach with a sold out arena. Quite the contrast to entering year four with our clown of a coach.

That doesn't seem to jive with the reality at the time. CU seemed pretty bitter about his breaking the contract.

i remember bzz trying to back out of paying the buyout he agreed to because they had not started building a bball facility. so they got out the shovel and dug up some dirt. presto! pay the buyout and good riddance.

the air force academy was not sad to see him go.

CU was ecstatic to rid themselves of [Redacted]. Wellman handled the matter with arrogance and made the mistake of his career. Colorado took advantage of the opening to asssemble a real search committe and hire a real coach. Colorado could not be happier.

I truly cannot imagine how anyone could truly believe that Jeff [Redacted] epitomizes a single quality that someone would want, in their head basketball coach. He has no personality, is a horrible fund raiser, is a total flop with students, completely sucks with the media, is a proven loser of unprecedented proportions, and has incredible turnover in his programs. Ron Wellman has detroyed a tremendous amount of long-time loyalty and support. But he sure made the Buffaloes happy.
