Were we at any time in the hunt for this kid? 7'0" 240 lbs.

2011 commit Joseph Uchebo has been granted his release from NC State.

Uchebo sought the release from his commitment. Wolfpack coach Mark Gottfried said he wishes Uchebo the best, wherever he decides to go.

I see that he attended Word of God Academy this past year. Someone please correct me, but isn't that "one of those high schools" that WF has traditionally not recruited from?

I can't find any list of other schools that offered him from either Rivals or Scout.

Word of god..... QEA.... what's the difference? Wake fans are only holier than thou until we recruit from a school, then we pretend our criticisms never happened.

From PackPride:

"IMO, there are few schools in the country that are more attractive to play basketball at than NC State."

:tard:

Nah, numbers loves him some state.

Also, we have recruited WoG in the past, at least under Dino (Bishop Daniels for example).

This kid's obviously trouble if the departure of Sidney Lowe is something that causes him to reconsider his choice of college.

Apparently he used to be in the class of 2012 but reclassified in the 2011 class. Here is ESPN's little blurb from when he committed to State:

6-foot-10 Nigerian center Joseph Uchebo has verbally committed to N.C. State, according to the Raleigh News & Observer.

Uchebo chose to commit to the Wolfpack early because he has family in the Raleigh/Durham area, the paper reported.

ESPN's Scouts Inc. has the goods on this raw youngster.

"Joseph is a big time prospect because of his class (2012), his body and his solid athletic ability. He has a big strong body to go along with a tremendous work ethic. According to those close to him he loves to work out.

"Offensively he can score within 10 feet and can turn hit face-up jumpers. He has decent hands but good footwork around the basket which should continue to develop.

"Defensively he's not a great shot blocker but he can block some on the ball. Also, his big body makes him a solid rebounder in the paint.

"He'll be a good player for the Wolfpack as he matures and develops. Sidney Lowe and his staff did a great job identifying Joseph and building a relationship with those taking care of him in North Carolina."

Since he was released from his letter of intent do we or can we get involved with him. We all know we could use him in the worst way.

ACC would have to grant a waiver for another conference school to take him without losing a year of eligibility. And historically, they never grant that waiver.

He's not going to an ACC school. If he signed his LOI then he has to sit out a year and lose a year of eligibility to sign with another ACC school. It happened to Maryland a few years ago when Gus Gilchrist signed with VT but then backed out and came to UMD. Debbie didn't fight for a waiver and Gus was a headcase so he left for USF later that year.

Sitting out a year is really unfair to the recruit. Most kids sign mainly because of their relationship with the coaching staff - not just the school - and when there is a coaching change they should be allowed to leave without any hardship or penalty on the them.

Yep. A lot of the NCAA rules are unfair to the kids.

Especially when coaches can freely move from one school to another... such as Clemson asst Josh Postorino who was hired by Georgia Tech yesterday.

The sit out rule should be waived under specific conditions, both at a conference and NCAA level. The most obvious example would be a coach leaving, but also if there was some major event at the school, ie: the VT shooting.
