Nikita Whitlock Signed to Cowboys Prax Squad

Whitlock is pretty much screwed. There is very little need for a FB in today's NFL- to the point that most teams carry only 1 and then use TEs/H-backs the rest of the time. And he can't play any other position on the field.

Ex Deac FB Tommy Bohanon still hanging on with the Jets.

He's got a degree, a paycheck and a family to come home to. Now, he's playing with his home town team, which will look good on his resume' when he enters the real world. How many other Deacs wish they had this much.

Why would you say that? It makes no sense.
If he has any coverage skills, OLB in a 3-4 might be something he could do in the NFL. He plays very well in traffic...I just don't know about how well he plays in space.

He doesn't have the footspeed to play in coverage. Not to mention he is 5'9- can you point out another 3-4 OLB who is below 6 feet tall?

The NFL has pretty strict unofficial rules for what positions a person can play at a particular height and weight. The only position for someone with Nikita's size is FB. Simple as that. If he continues to work hard, maybe he can catch on with one of the few teams that has a FB. Perhaps the Cowboys brought him in as a scout player when they play teams that have FBs. Don't know.

Some of you seem to have no idea how big and fast NFL defensive players are. Nikita is not big or fast.

Thomas Davis is 6'1" and converted back to a small fast OLB after playing mostly free safety at UGA.

Sam Mills was 5'9" at MLB, but Whitlock is not Sam Mills.

If Whitlock was anything like a LB, he would have played LB at Wake.

Not only is Whitlock not Sam Mills, Sam Mills was a complete anomaly who last played 17 years ago.

London Fletcher just retired, and he was under 6 feet, but the fact remains if Whitlock could have played LB, he would have at Wake.

Tip your hat to the guy for making a practice squad on almost guts alone, and move on.

There is very little need for a FB in today's NFL who only knows how to block. Bohanon is a very capable pass catcher, runner and pass blocker in addition to his run blocking prowess. If Nikita can improve those abilities to serviceable during his time on the PS then he may very well find himself on a roster in the coming years.

Nikita is a valuable PS player because he offers versatility to play multiple positions so thats good for him.

Bohanon averaged, what, 3 touches per game while at WFU?

Well done, Lobo.

Bohanon could transition to an H-back with his skillset and 6-1/247 size.

Again, it is amazing for Nikita to make a practice squad with only 4 preseason games of experience playing offense. That's a huge accomplishment on its own no matter what the future holds.

Agreed

I thought I read somewhere that Nikita caught everything thrown to him at his Pro Day, which was a bit of a surprise.

Yeah. It would take an incredible effort for him to stick on a roster as a H-back with this size, but that's his best bet.

Zach Thomas (Texas Tech/Dolphins) was another short guy, but he played LB his entire life. Let's appreciate Nikita for what he did for us, wish him all the best, and as SIG says move on. He's done more with less, than many have.

Might be on the practice squad with michael sam.

I love when ole lec comes through with totally unverifiable stuff like that.
