OFFICIAL 2017 WORLD SERIES L.A. DODGERS VS. ASTROS THREAD

Rj would have an aneurism if he got to spend one day with the Dodgers baseball ops people and see what they were up to with statcast data.

Afterward, pitching coach Brent Strom told Rosenthal: “I’ve got to hand this to our analytics people. “They said, ‘Listen, this is where we’re making our mistakes. We need to throw as many curveballs as possible. This is a good fastball-hitting team.'”

And he got lit up like a Christmas tree in his two games against the Yankees this year.

As to this being anything new, it's not. Teams have kept those kinds of records for decades.

If those are the kinds of "advanced analytics" they'd be discussing, the aneurism would be from laughter at them thinking they are doing anything remotely recent.

Next thing you'll be telling me is that team chart hot and cold zones for hitters is "advanced analytics". I can't remember a time when this wasn't done.

Wait, how about stats on how a pitcher does against a certain hitter. Oh yeah, that's new too.

:bowrofl::bowrofl::bowrofl:

Strom obviously isn't going to say, but the "analytics people" were probably feeding findings based on exit velocity and launch angle, adjusted for the count and pitch sequencing, etc.

Kind of relevant story. Went out to Arizona to catch some ST action and had 5th row seats directly behind home plate at Camelback Ranch, Home of the White Sox & Dodgers. We had the row to ourselves until about the middle of the 2nd when Alex Anthopoulos, Josh Byrnes, & one other front office guy came and sat next to us. Didn’t get a good look at the name tag of the third guy. But Anthopoulos sat next to me and was actually pretty friendly.

Anybody else watch A-Rod on Shark Tank a couple of weeks ago? He is a weird dude. Could totally see him running for President in like 2024.

Please, please go on.

1. Which party?
2. What's his centerpiece policy proposal?
3. Who is his political rival?
4. Does he have a scandal derail his campaign?
5. If you answered Y to 4, when does it drop? Primaries or general?
6. If you answered Y to 4, what's the scandal?
7. Which demographic makes up his "base?" The elites or not-the-elites?
8. What is the first lie he tells on the campaign? (Note: the lie cannot be the scandal you foresaw when answering 4)

Thx Say Hey I look forward to your responses.

Those guys are geniuses.

Big town. First W-S in 29 years. That said, a grand just to get in is a lot. What are prime seats going for?

Looks like 6-7k behind home plate. Not that bad, comparatively. Around 3k for like 20 rows back behind home plate.

They said on the news tix downstairs can go in the 5000-$12,000 range.

Thanks to both of you. Any recommendations on places to go eat/drink before the games (or brunch on Saturday)?

Lots of options that are walking distance from Minute Maid.

Flying Saucer and Bovine & Barley are beer bars with large tap lists and decent bar food. The Conservatory is a food hall with a large tap list as well. Xochi is probably the best restaurant downtown. Highly recommend it for brunch. There's a great Mediterranean market close by called Phoenicia. Lots of options. Heard Potente is good but never been.

Also for cocktails Bad News Bar, Pastry War (gets crowded real quick), Houston Watch Company, and Public Services are all good options. None of these places have food though.

Dodger Dogs are probably the most overrated sports venue food in America.

wait, you know pitcher vs hitter data is worthless right?

:bowrofl::bowrofl::bowrofl: indeed

Pitcher vs. hitter data is worthless? That makes as much sense as "there's no such thing as a hot hand".
