Official 2020-21 NBA Finals - Milwaukee Bucks win the NBA Championship!

For the last few weeks, the full squad Spurs have been losing to teams without their best players. 24 hours ago, they lost to the Blazers without Dame by 1. Well tonight, Pop rested DeRozan, Poeltl, and Mills and beat the full squad Suns by 26. After three straight DNPs, rookie Devin Vassell had his career high 18 pts (4-6 3pt) in 24 min.

Well, first Spurs got screwed last night. On winning basket the guy lost control of the ball and carried it on a fast break. It should have been a turnover with Spurs up 1. Then nab comes out today and says Jacob was fouled on last shot.

How many times over the years did we see the Spurs lose to a depleted team? Quite a few. Spurs shot well Suns didn’t.

I didn't see the NBA come out and say Poeltl was fouled. Doesn't matter anyway. Yeah, they got screwed down the stretch vs. the Blazers, but they should have made shots down the stretch too.

Really hope Pop makes room for Vassell and Luka in the rotation.

Steph Curry averaging 40PPG this month on 50% shooting from 3 on 14 attempts per game

I don't watch a ton of NBA basketball until the playoffs, rather catching parts of games here and there. Watched a bit of Heat-Nets yesterday. Seemed like almost every shot was a 3 unless they caught someone streaking to the basket or it was a fastbreak or putback attempt. Just stretching 3 point shooting to its absolute max. Checked the stats afterwards and about about 50% of both teams shots were 3s. Then I checked the general league stats and about 40% league-wide shots are 3s - the highest figure ever. Been creeping up each year, where will this end up? What would Shaq even do in this NBA?

3s are worth more than 2s, teams should explore taking even more 3s imo

Official 2020-21 NBA Season Thread - Lamarcus Aldridge retires due to heart issues

Shaq would post up and dunk on poor stretch 5s. His game wouldn’t be changed except he’d be passing out of the post to 3 point shooters more often.

It’s pretty impossible to shoot 50% on shots that aren’t threes, layups, or dunks. Demar DeRozan is one of the few proficient 2-point scorers and he’s only shot over 50% from 2 three times. His rookie year, last season, and this season. And obviously that includes layups and dunks.

Makes plenty of sense to shoot more 3s. The only somewhat reasonable way to incentivize midrange jumpers nowadays would be to add a 2.5 point line at like 12 feet. Moving back the 3 point line wouldn’t do it.

Would his dominance in the paint offset his defensive liability of stretch 5s on the perimeter?

I think coaches could scheme around that better by surrounding him with rangy defenders.

related to townie's tweet, this is interesting info

I appreciate the attempt at creative visualization, but these player face charts are unreadable

I wanna find, for instance, Gobert on here

That chart is pretty useless without breaking it down by position at least or maybe compare actual vs. expected time spent guarding Usage Tier 1 players.

Do other pro franchises have programs like this? It's good to see a franchise making jobs in pro franchises and leagues more accessible.
[h=1]Spurs organization launches their own talent academy[/h]College students and postgraduates can now get in on the ground floor

There will be a Professional Internship program as well as an Associate’s program. The Professional Internship program will offer insight into the business of professional sports to enrolled college or technical school students through an immersive learning environment. The 10-month rotational program delves behind-the-scenes at the operations for NBA and USL franchises and professional event management. Students will be assigned to a business unit of focus based on their areas of interest, experience and academic achievement.
The Associate’s program offers up to two-years for post graduate degree candidates. Year one is extremely focused on developing skills for success in the sports industry. If granted, the second year shifts toward leadership focused on training and opportunities to contribute to a fast-paced, values-based and goal-oriented culture.

Or just let them shoot. Most stretch 5s aren't very good. Most of their value comes from duping the defensive 5 into chasing them out there so as to be out of position for the wild rebound off their invariable miss. Shaq would score on them 90+% of the time in the post and far offset whatever 3s they did hit. Keep hoisting, -vic.

Jaylen Hoard just scored for the Thunder in the OKC/WAS game.

Didn’t know he was back in the NBA; well, if call this version of the Thunder an NBA team
