Official Super Bowl thread

Kind of this. Don't like Ray Lewis- murder issue aside, his tiresome self-promotion and religious overtures grow old. Don't like Jim Harbaugh- and I'm a Bears fan. His snotty bullshit when we played Stanford helped that along. I do like Coach Caldwell very much and I would like to see him get another Super Bowl ring. Ray Lewis tempers that but I'll overlook it.

Have zero interest in the commercials or halftime show. I like football games. That's why I watch. Don't give a fuck about commercialism or pop music.
Mostly this for me. Jim H was a bitch about the game with us, but I'd take that over the attitude Grobe has shown lately. No doubt JH cares about his teams' success. So I don't have much a of a problem with him. I'd like Wake (or the Panthers) to have a coach with that kind of fire.

Caldwell getting a ring would be cool. I'd like to see the game go to overtime. Halftime will be beer time.

Being pissed when you get a shit call rubs off on your team. Guys like Harbaugh and Carroll are generally appreciated by their players for that. Yes, it's nice to see. Between Grobe and Lovie Smith, my football teams' coaches have been about as fiery as a bucket of cold, gray mud.

Just a correction: Caldwell already has a ring from the Colts win over Chicago.

Yeah, I meant it would be cool to see Caldwell get another.

Either way, I'm tired of having to pick a team to pull for in the Super Bowl. Panthers need to get their shit together.

Ray Lewis and his fake finding of religion and guidance from God on his spiritual journey from killing a man to retiring at the superbowl can die in a fucking fire, so Niners all the way.

Ph, I suggest you change the title to "The Official Big Game Thread" before it's too late.

Well, no reason for my Ravens to play the game now. Nate Silver picked the Niners.:(

As a practical matter, I think we will have a tough time in the game. The Niners are what we and the Steelers used to be - a smashmouth team with stout lines of scrimmage. Now the 2 toughest teams in the league are the Niners and Seahawks. Dean Pees (our DC) has done a great job all year with an injured and out manned defensive unit. But this is a bad match-up for us because the Niners can run it down your throats. We've done well against the finesse offenses we've faced so far in the playoffs, but good running teams gave us fits in the regular season. Outside of Ngata, our other D-linemen have underperformed this year, and San Fran has a super OL. Add to that their front 7 on D will prolly get the better of our OL. I would have taken the points the last 2 games, but I'd give the 3.5 if I were betting.

Guess I'm going with Nate Silver on this one.

(I serious think the Ravens will win though)

The chorus from Sandy Hook Elementary is singing "America the Beautiful" before the game Sunday. Should be a pretty powerful performance.

Wife went to U of Delaware, so go Flaccos. Though I too am tired of the Ray Lewis Promo Tour. Either way it ends tonight, so that's good. Mainly rooting for a game that goes down to the wire.

The Ravens D was being run on hard during the regular season (Chiefs 214 yds, Cowboys 227 yds, Texans 181 yds, Redskins 176 yds). They beat two finesse teams to get here, but now face a smash mouth team in SF who has one of, if not the best, OL in the league. This game could simply be the Frank Gore show. Colin Kaepernick may not have to be a factor. But does anybody want the city of SF to win the World Series in October, then the Super Bowl in Feb? And the DeBartolos rub me the wrong way somehow with their "we've never lost a Super Bowl." And I think a win tonight ties them with the Steelers for the overall lead.

On the other hand, the Ravens may be a "team of destiny" similar to the last two Giants Super Bowls. In the first, everybody was openly questioning whether Eli Manning was an elite QB during that season, then he goes and leads the G-men to a SB victory. The same is happening for Flacco this year. In the second, the Giants were a "meh" 7-7 team that got hot at the right time and rode the hot streak all the way to SB victory - kind of like the Ravens this year who backed into the playoffs. I'd like to root for Caldwell, and appreciate the vertical passing attack he's added to the Ravens offense since Dec - it really balances the attack and makes the DB's not commit so hard to run support. Regarding Ray Lewis, there are several Biblical examples of redeemed murderers (Moses, David), but something about him makes my Spider sense tingle. Poor Cleveland, this could have been your team.

Madden 13 predicts Ravens win.

Eh, just does a lot of taunting, etc. I openly admit i'd have no problem if he was killing it on my team.

What are you talking about? He does the kissing of the bicep and that is it. Doesn't get in the face of other players or taunt the opposition.

I feel like we are due for a blowout game. Every game has been decided in the 4th Quarter since 2003. Hope not.

Just saw an interview with Shannon Sharpe where Ray Lewis basically said, "If I was guilty, God wouldn't have allowed me to be here." So I'm hoping for an act of God and a Niners win.
