VA Republicans getting right on the hot button issues that Democrats just refused to address.

While March will not be sworn in until the second week of January, she said that she has already filed a number of bills, including one that would allow school systems to display U.S. flag decals on the sides of school buses. March said that the measure would expose communists among Democratic lawmakers inclined to vote against it. “If there are communists in the House of Delegates, let’s figure out who they are,” she said.

It must be. The republicans have been showing us for decades who they are. Their base refused to believe their eyes. Now, their base won't even believe when they say the quiet part out loud.

The House Veterans Affairs Committee held a virtual hearing to discuss how toxic chemicals are killing US soldiers. Madison Cawthorn took the opportunity to clean his guns on-and-off camera. Many of the witnesses and other committee members were not pleased, to put it mildly.

"Cawthorn, the youngest current member of Congress, fiddled with his black pistol while one witness explained how university medical researchers could help the government examine how burn pits are harming military service members...[John] Feal was one of at least two people at the Veterans’ Affairs meeting who noticed what Cawthorn was doing. Both were infuriated...Cawthorn worked on his pistol out of sight for several minutes, two people told The Daily Beast, but it became plainly visible during the testimony of Jen Burch, a veteran who spent six years in the Air Force serving in Japan and Afghanistan.

The Daily Beast asked Cawthorn’s office if the congressman thought this an appropriate time to clean his firearm. His communications director, Luke Ball, responded: “What could possibly be more patriotic than guns and veterans?”

But that can't be, because he promised in his inaugural address to represent all Virginians, including Democrats, and to try to lessen the partisan divisions in the state. It would appear that his governing strategy is to occasionally say nice things to Democrats while still governing like a hard-right Trumpite. That strategy got him elected by about two percentage points, I guess we'll see how it stands up now that he's actually in charge.
