Pit Cruising Thread

Cup Match is a magical thing.

Bermuda basically suspends all non-violence related laws for those 2 days.

Young kids run gambling games outside the match, and pump you full of free beer.

They always have a visitors booth set-up where they explain cricket, and also give away all the booze you could ever want.

Is it to pin toursits off? Yeah, sure. Does it work. Hell yeah. I'm fine with it.

P.s. most businesses shut down & hotels tend to be prohibitively expensive for it, but... guess what? A docked cruise ship solves all of these issues.

The seas can get a bit rough, but again, you get 3 days of recovery time while you're docked.
Fabulous, I recommend going one time when the Newport to Bermuda Race yachts are coming in. Similar vibe but with sailors.

Yes, we're doing a 7 night southbound cruise. Getting to Seward has been the most annoying part so far.
I'd love to do that cruise within a 2+ week trip that starts with 2 days in Anchorage and a train to Seward and ends with a week between Vancouver, Squamish, and Whistler.

I'm doing something similar in July. One week in Alaska visiting parents, Wrangell St Elias and Denali, then a cruise.

Yeah. I was actually born there and spent 12 years there as a child. They moved south for a long time and just retired up there a few years ago.
Many benefits retiring to Alaska? Most people retire down south so they don’t have to shovel snow anymore. The amount of Wisconsin flags I saw outside of Beaufort made me think the Iron Brigade had left some instructions for their ancestors behind.

Give us some good Alaska stories.

My mother has end stage COPD, and the lack of humidity in Alaska is ideal for her.

Plus, the scenery is an excellent trade off for the snow. Growing up seeing Denali on a clear day is pretty amazing.

We went to Whistler on our honeymoon and spent a day in Squamish while we were there. You will love them. Be careful in Vancouver as they have a terrible problem with thieves popping trunks and doing snatch & grabs. Had our laptop stolen there on the last day of the honeymoon. 😡

We did Seattle-Alaskan cruise-Vancouver for our honeymoon. Two summers ago, we did an Alaskan cruise, weekend in Vancouver, and Monday-Friday in Squamish. Vancouver is my favorite city. I could see retiring in Squamish one day. Wonderful town. Watershed Grill is one of my favorite restaurants.

Vancouver is great but as a “favorite city?” Huh

After that Alaskan cruise, my wife booked Thanksgiving cruises for 2023 and 2024, the latter on Icon of the Seas. The cruise departs the day of the Wake-Miami football game and if Wake is in the Disney World tournament over Thanksgiving, I'll miss it too.

Our casino offers this month included Utopia in September. We're probably going to jump on it. By the looks, pre-sale for the new ship isnt going very well. Typically ships have to be sailing for a year before offers are extended.

Given a choice people are booking Icon over Utopia. We've all seen an Oasis class ship already so a new one really isn't that impressive.

San Juan for a day with no real itinerary and a 5yo and 8yo. Plenty of beach time on other days so what should I do with myself and my family on this day?

You ever wondered what it would feel like to live in a cellphone?
You enjoy overpriced tourist attractions like a zip line to nowhere
You love chain restaurants?

Knowing the answer is yes and therefore Distrito T-mobile is for you.

stroll though la perla
I've always wanted to see where Omar lived when he left Baltimore. Also, I'm not sure if you're being facetious or not, but I'm definitely going to la perla.
