And so then why wouldn’t an infectious disease doctor compare the risks associated with playing during Covid to the known risks that every medical professional already knows about? Why wouldn’t that be a logical way of explaining the risk?

Because when a football player tears an ACL they don’t spread tearing ACL to other people.

Covid is not a risk of playing football. It’s another unrelated risk on top of the risks of playing football.

This isn’t hard

no kidding! Had no idea Covid spreads from one person to another.

I wonder if the infectious disease doctor understands this!!

Ok well you just asked whether it’s a logical way to explain the risk and that’s why it’s not so what else do you want?

If students shouldn't be there, students shouldn't be there (last I checked that includes athletes). Shut it down.

Very well said.

The seeds of more conference realignment being sown. PSU would be a great addition to the ACC.

I'm just imagining Swofford giving the Suge Knight speech. "If you just want to play football without the nerd schools all up in your schedules, come to the ACC."

so we can't compare communicable risk factors to non-communicable risk factors?

is that the rule?

if so, why?

Swofford can retire fulfilled now that he's been mentioned in the same breath as Suge Knight. Well played.

Because it’s not just a risk to the player. Like an ACL tear.

It’s a risk to society if they catch it and spread it.

So it’s not logical to lump it in as “a risk of playing football” since it involves more than just the player.

oh, so you're against the NHL playing too then, right?

Confirmation bias is apparently a hell of a drug

I mean, it’s a good thing that when we cancel football that all players will automatically be at a lower risk of contracting Covid!

And it’s also good to know that an infectious disease specialist with whom I disagree must be either a quack, or on the take, or both!

The NHL and NBA (as well as Formula 1) are successfully playing because they are being extremely diligent with their bubble protocols. MLB players apparently can't control themselves, so they are having issues. One of the big factors in the US sports leagues is travel. MLB teams are travelling, NHL and NBA are not. Easier to lock down when you are in one place. For college football (or any US based sports league) to work you need to be able to lock all the players in one location and expect them to conform to all the guidelines. You are being contrarian for the sake of it, but I'm sure you aren't dumb, so you can see how neither of these are possible for college sports.

ETA: Formula 1 is working even with travel because they have strict and extensive bubble protocols, are making smart changes to their schedule when possible, and have stayed within Europe to this point. What does it say that they were just able to have a race in Spain with no positive tests in the entire organization after how badly that country had been hit just a few months ago? Oh, and they cancelled all races in the Americas this season, so that is bound to help as well.

We will see what happens, but it appears that MLB protocols for protecting players have improved over time. The teams and players knew behaviors had to change for play to continue, and it looks like they have. Would guess now that the season will be completed. The outbreaks took place in the first two weeks of the season, and recently the positive rate has been almost nil. Football will learn from MLB.

And they’re professional athletes getting paid to follow the guidelines negotiated by their union and league administration.

Lots of schools have been announcing stadium capacities for the season, most around 20-30% capacity. Inviting disaster.

How are they deciding who gets tickets and how many?

Alabama split their home games into groups. Group 1: UGA & A&M. Group 2: AU, MSU, UK. I believe ticket holders can pick a package then hope that they get it. They’re going at about 20%.

Auburn is making the UK game a students only game, which I like, except I don’t like having fans at all. They haven’t announced how they will be distributing tickets otherwise.

Kansas State is operating at 25%, honoring all student tickets & will then allow fans to purchase a 2 game package of UT & KU or the remaining 3 games.

There are rumors floating around that 4 Big 10 teams are still mulling the idea of playing this Fall (tOSU, Nebraska, Iowa and Penn State), but for the plan to work, they need at least two other conference teams to join them, and the targets are Michigan and Wisconsin. The plan would be for a 6 team conference with each team playing the other 5 teams twice (10 games) with the hope that the winner would play in the BCS playoff. Seems really unlikely to work and would essentially undermine Big 10 Commissioner Kevin Warren's attempt to get the conference to act collectively, but would be fun to see the Big 10 schools in an intra-conference spat.

How are revenues split under this scenario? to the whole conference or just the teams playing?

I’m not sure he isn’t dumb at this point. Whatever the cause I’m tired of dragging him along so thanks
