Possible Wake Forest Coaching Candidates Analysis

So was the Joel once upon a time (noted as a great home court advantage).

Heard from someone decently connected at UNCG today.

two things of interest:

1) word around the Triad is that Manning is gone

2) Wes told the AD today that he and Mike Roberts will be back next season - obviously this doesn't mean a whole lot as the Wake job isn't open yet, but the way it was conveyed made it seem like that had been a question (as if Wes had some contact with another school like Wake and the other school found a different coach)

Wake's problem has never been underperforming at home relative to our talent level. It has always been underperforming in the postseason relative to our talent level.

Our stadium has had row after row of empty seats since it opened. The stadium was a horrible design to begin with the closed concourse, gradual incline of seats, no student seating in critical areas. We dug our own grave when we helped the city build that place. Horrific for recruiting. Can hear a pin drop.

If Turner has his choice between Wake and VT, that will not be an easy decision for him. Short term, if Blackshear comes back, Tech should finish in the top 10 in conference. Long term, Wake is an easier place to recruit to but has a smaller pool of recruits it can get into school. Facilities are equal, or will be once the practice facility is finished. Even with upgrades, the Joel may still not provide a better game experience than the Cassell.

The choice won't be hard at all. Wake is inarguably the better job. VT is the worst job, maybe 2nd worst (BC), in the ACC.

This isn’t true. And wth is (1)? Do you mean the guy working McDonalds check out window in Kernersville is in the know?

Russell Turner is a good coach, good fit. Totally plausible he gets hired.

Recruiting and home performance haven't been our problems. You are so desperate to fit a square peg into a round hole due to your on campus arena vendetta.

Recruiting and home performance are major problems. The entire program is a problem. It needs a complete overhaul from top to bottom.

There's nothing wrong with the Joel that a winning team won't fix. Even K was only able fill tiny Cameron to a 75% capacity during his third year at Duke.

So did Manning reach 5% this year. Folks, why do we not want to give our team the best possible chance to win? Proper stadium, Proper AD, Proper Coach. Need everything working together. Our alums last stood up and building an ideal arena in 1935. We have been in civic centers since. Unacceptable. We should strive for the best in all facets of the program. Even if you think the home arena is only 5% of the equation, you should want that 5% to be perfect.

Seems like most folks around here are trying to figure out which posters are potentially insiders...

I’m over here making a list of trolls, obvious parodies, and insane nut-jobs.

Coaching changes bring everyone out of the woodwork, with no shortage of hot takes and strong opinions.

It makes no sense to focus efforts on 5% of the solution to a problem when with less money and in less time you can fix the other 95%. We're getting a new AD and we assume we are getting a new coach. If we get a great coach we will be well on our way to fixing most of the problem. I would love to spend $10M -$20M sometime in the next few years to renovate the Joel- make it more Wake-centric, maybe add better boxes, open the concourse, re-configure some seating... whatever. I think that would be a much more efficient investment than spending over $100M to build a new arena.
If someone wants to give us $100M specifically for a new arena then what the hell, go for it.

I agree on all points. Doesn’t change the fact we won over 80% of our games in that building prior to the Bzaster.

Just curious, which is more important an arena or coaching?
