Keep it simple. And remember you're going to have to call everyone in creation afterwards (parents, grandparents, siblings, etc.).

my wife called one of her sister's after we got engaged. now wife was all excited said, "guess what?" her sister said in the most depressed voice ever "you got engaged. -crickets- congratulations." it sounded like eeyore. she was upset enough that she had to stop calling people to tell them for awhile.
