Retired US Soccer / World Cup Thread (RIP)

So how is the USA player supposed to avoid a player in front of her swinging her leg backwards?
 
Are you required to give an opposing player room to load up for a shot? Sure looked like the England player initiated the contact.
 
Was a pen even if there is basically no way to avoid that backswing. Pretty terrible penalty attempt fortunately. Gonna be a crazy last 10 minutes!
