• Welcome to OGBoards 10.0, keep in mind that we will be making LOTS of changes to smooth out the experience here and make it as close as possible functionally to the old software, but feel free to drop suggestions or requests in the Tech Support subforum!

Spring!

Also models are coming together for a MASSIVE storm up the 95 corridor for the end of the week. Would have to be very strong to top the blizzard from last year but a few runs in a row now have bombed out DC-Boston. Will be interesting to see what happens there as well.

NAM dropped 8-10" across the state, followed by some amount of sleet I can't figure out.

Not sure if anyone here is actually doing it, but fuck anyone who is rooting for this snowstorm to hit NC.

To make matters worse than usual for our family, I am out of town on business for the week. That means that any cancellation of school that doesn't also involve WFU cancelling classes means my wife is hosed trying to juggle the 3 kids being home with her responsibilities as a professor. When I'm home we can usually navigate that messy situation, but not this time. Hopefully some of our usual babysitters end up not having to work those days.

Haha it's like the first relatively major snow storm for NC in two or three years. People who love snow in the area are almost certainly pulling for it. It's not like you guys have gotten a ton of snow over the past bit. Although there was the whole fact that WSFCS shut down for three days over two inches of snow and ice. That does add to issues when real storms hit.

Uh, no. No totals are out yet in their forecast. That will come within 24 hours. Want to be a precise as possible.

Snow

This is like watching Joe Lunardi dance around in the days leading to the NCAA bracket being announced.

Just let it snow in atlanta metro area a few inches please.

The NWS is so conservative!
ALTHOUGH FORECASTERS TYPICALLY LIKE TO
SEE EVERY MODEL SHOWING A VERY SIMILAR SOLUTION FOR IMPACTFUL
STORMS...THE CONSISTENCY AND SKILL OF THE ECMWF AND THE CLUES FROM
THE CIPS ANALOG SITE VERY WELL MAY TRUMP THAT NEED. THE STRUGGLES
OF THE GFS WITH SOUTHERN STREAM SYSTEMS AND THE POOR PERFORMANCE
OF THE NAM AT 78-84 HRS CAN NOT BE DISCOUNTED. MANY OF THE
NECESSARY INGREDIENTS FOR SIGNIFICANT SNOWFALL ARE IN
PLACE...CONFLUENT FLOW AHEAD OF THE UPPER TROUGH IN SE
CANADA...WHICH SLOWS SHORTWAVE PROGRESSION ENOUGH TO ALLOW FOR
PHASING AND/OR EVENTUAL NEGATIVE TILT...AND A STRONG WEDGING
SURFACE HIGH IN PLACE BEFORE THE PRECIP SHIELD
ARRIVES...POTENTIALLY WEDNESDAY MORNING OR LATE TUESDAY NIGHT.
EVEN THOUGH THE SURFACE HIGH BEGINS TO LIFT OUT OF NEW ENGLAND
LATER WEDNESDAY...BY THAT TIME THE WEDGE WILL BE OF AN IN SITU
VARIETY...WITH A COLD ENOUGH LOW LEVEL ENVIRONMENT LOCKED IN TO
KEEP AN ISOTHERMAL SOUNDING JUST BELOW FREEZING. WITH THE
EXCEPTION OF AN ICE STORM EARLIER THIS SEASON...THIS IS PROBABLY
THE STRONGEST SIGNAL WE`VE SEEN ALL WINTER THIS MANY DAYS
AWAY...WITH REGARDS TO AN IMPACTFUL WINTER STORM.
STILL
THOUGH...NEED TO SEE THIS EVENT FULLY MOVE INTO THE 72 HR WINDOW
BEFORE TURNING THE FORECAST STRONGLY TOWARDS A WINTER STORM.
WEDNESDAY WOULD SEEM TO BE THE DAY THIS SYSTEM ARRIVES.

This is what the NWS says about the Winston Salem forecast:
SHORT TERM /TUESDAY THROUGH THURSDAY/...
-- Changed Discussion --
AS OF 320 PM SUNDAY...

...WINTER STORM WATCH MAY BE NEEDED WITHIN 24 HOURS...

Fuckin' A right, brother. All these Carolina pussies rooting for snow like a bunch of little kids...clearly they aren't as powerful and important as grown-ass men like you and me.

Correct. The NWS doesn't do a serviceable job when it comes to needing to put out warnings that give actual heads up. It will snow in NC unless something major changes. It should be a good amount of snow for the bulk of the state.

This was definitely true with the last storm.

Jesus, again? There's still ~8" on the ground from last week's storm.

I would love to give spring time a reach around right about now. Winter blows.

Just went shopping for the week. It was a pleasant, regular Sunday crowd at the grocery store. Sure to be a shitshow in a day or two.

Thank you, drew.
