Welcome to the 2017 Stanley Cup Finals. We have a great matchup this season between the Pittsburgh Penguins and the Nashville Predators. While the players from those two teams battle it out for the Cup, a number of other NHL teams will try exert their own influence on the game. Both the Penguins and the Predators will be rostering four players for this matchup. There will be no additions to those rosters throughout the game. Either of the two teams competing for the Cup will win the ultimate prize when the other team is eliminated from the game, and they are at even numbers with the remaining teams/players (3-3, 2-2, etc.). In a strange ploy for ratings, the NHL has decided that neither team will win the Cup if both teams are eliminated. Play hard, have fun, and Let’s Go Red Wings!

Standard mafia rules apply with the following changes/clarifications:

Any posts more than one minute after Night is declared will result in that player being removed from the game. Dead talk will result in the death of a teammate of that player. However, posts consisting solely of a single picture/gif/video related to hockey will be exempt. Please do not angle shoot here, keep it fun.

If a vote goes to a majority, there will be a 5 minute twilight period before the end of the round. If votes change and negate the majority, the countdown will be reset the next time a majority is reached.

No majorities with 6 or fewer players remaining.

OT will be 5 minutes, then we go to a shootout (RNG). Any player may switch their vote in OT.

Do not directly quote PMs from Gary Bettman (the mod) or address Bettman directly in thread. He doesn’t like to interact with the little people and will AA you at his discretion.

You may reveal any information or claim you would like, unless you are specifically instructed not to in a PM. However, do not cut and paste your PM in thread. That will result in an AA. Mafia will have safe claims.

Make sure your inbox has room. If you do not get a message from me and you miss important information, you will be AAd.

Montreal Canadiens - Smidge - You are the Montreal Canadiens. While winning may be the most important thing to your fans (and telling everyone else about it is pretty much tied for the lead), you also take great joy in spoiling the party for your former players. Especially when it seems there was an issue behind the scenes (or that is your cover for being racist). Therefore, you know that P.K. Subban is in this game as the Predators’ godfather, and you may investigate a player each night. The result of this investigation will return “Subban” or “not Subban”.

Las Vegas Golden Knights - bym - You are the Las Vegas Golden Knights. You are the new kids on the block in the NHL. You have not played a game and you don’t even have a roster yet. However, the expansion draft is coming up soon, so you need to take a close look at all of the scrubs that will be made available for you, while looking longingly at the star players. You are the cop in this game, and you may investigate a player each night. You will be told if that player is “mafia” or “not mafia”. There may be factors which affect the accuracy of your results.

Anaheim Ducks - Bernie - You are the Anaheim Ducks. You have a collection of the dirtiest players in the game, and few teams can get past you without some sort of collateral damage. The same holds true in this game, as you are a Vengeful Civ. If you are lynched, you may choose one player that voted against you to also be killed. You must do so within 5 minutes of the lynch being finalized, so please be around at all deadlines (lenience will be given for a majority). If you do not submit a name, one will be chosen via RNG. A hit at night circumvents this power. You may not reveal this power in thread. If you do, you and a teammate will both be removed from the game.

New Jersey Devils - timdunk - You are the New Jersey Devils. The post-Brodeur era has not treated you well to this point. You were the worst team in the Eastern conference, but you were able to pass a couple teams in the draft lottery to grab the number one pick. Maybe Nolan Patrick or Nico Hischier will improve your fortunes next season. In this game, you are a vanilla civ.

Edmonton Oilers - Gouda - You are the Edmonton Oilers. Your team showed huge gains this season, after years of rebuilding. Advancing to the second round is a great sign, and you have the core to perhaps get further next season. However, you are just a vanilla civ in this game.

Minnesota Wild - nonny - You are the Minnesota Wild. Being the second highest scoring team this season (behind the Eastern Conference Champion Penguins), you know how to exploit a weakness on defense. As such, you know that the Penguins have a hole at the blueline, and you may search for it each night. You may target a player for investigation, and you will be informed if that player is “Penguins’ Defense” or “not Penguins’ Defense”. (This is a GF Hunter role)

Evgeny Malkin - chic - You have been the best player on the ice for the Penguins this post season. More than anyone, you have exerted your influence on other teams and been nigh unstoppable at times. As such you can use your force of will to enhance one of your team’s night kills to be unstoppable. You must be the hitter if you choose to use your power. This strongman hit will go through in any case, excepting if there is a commuter role. If you are roleblocked the same night that you choose to use this power, it will be returned to you.

Chris Kunitz - rommy - You scored the biggest goal of the post season, capping off a Double OT Game 7 in the Conference Finals. You can try to harness that magic again in this game. If you make a kill in OT, you will gain a vig hit that you personally may use any night. You may only gain a maximum of two vig hits in this manner, and these hits may not be augmented.

P.K. Subban - sd3 - You are P.K. Subban. You are a great defenseman, but you are also a master of disguise, and generally have some pretty great Halloween costumes. As such, you are the Predators’ godfather, and any general investigations directed at you will be returned “not mafia”. There may be other ways in which your identity can be revealed.

The Hole at the Blueline - GoalieMom - You are the hole at the Penguins blueline. Generally teams have to have at least one All-Star caliber defenseman to win a Stanley Cup. Due to injury and cap issues, the Penguins barely have a reasonable second pair player on the roster. Nobody knows who you are and nobody expects anything out of you. As such, you act as the Penguins’ Godfather, and any general investigations directed at you will be returned “not mafia”. There may be other ways in which your identity can be revealed.

Columbus Blue Jackets - Da - You are the Columbus Blue Jackets. Sergei Bobrovski was potentially the best goalie in the league this season, and was an instrumental part of your team making the playoffs this season. Unfortunately, you ran into the Penguins in the first round, which ended your run early. You can still use Bobrovski’s skills to good use in this game. You are the Angel, and you may choose one player to protect each night. This player will be protected from any deaths until night is declared the following day. (e.g. if you protect a player night 1, they will be protected until night is called on day 2.) This will not protect players from being lynched, and there may be other powers which will affect your ability to protect your target. You may not protect the same player on consecutive nights, and you may not protect yourself.

Colorado Avalanche - Gooner - You are the Colorado Avalanche, a once proud franchise that left Quebec City and became a festering pile of dog shit. Like, seriously, you guys were a cesspool of humanity, and now you could barely beat an AHL team. Fuck you and your whole team. You are a vanilla civ.

Washington Capitals - Manning - You are the Washington Capitals. You won the President’s Trophy this season and looked pretty much unstoppable most of the year, again. Of course, then came the playoffs, again. You once again showed that you have no reason to be considered in a game about the Stanley Cup Finals. You are a vanilla civ.

Predators’ Anthem Singers - DeacsFan27 - You are the collection of Country Music stars that the Predators have been parading out to sing the National Anthem before games. Your performances help to set the stage for the raucous atmosphere at the Nashville home games, and you can also have effects on this game as well. You may choose between three different round modifiers to enact. Each modifier may only be used once. You may only use one per round, but you may choose which one to use:
Bottom three in post number at the start of the day have their vote doubled.
No official vote counts.
All night actions for the following round are cancelled.

Toronto Maple Leafs - chaos - You are the Toronto Maple Leafs. Things are looking great for the Maple Leafs. You have a future Hall of Fame coach, a great young core of players, and a rabid fanbase. This will be a fun team to watch over the next couple years, but for now, you are just a vanilla civ.
