Stock Market Crash

That’s hopeful at best.

Let's also remember that we cant afford health care, infrastructure, alternative energy, education, etc because how can we pay for it??

Yeah, we'll spend billions to bail out corporations, but when it comes to universal healthcare, infrastructure improvement, education, or a host of other things that would benefit mere families or individuals long-term (as opposed to a one-time $1200 check) forget it. That would be socialism for individuals and families, which is bad, as opposed to corporate socialism, which is wonderful, and something we've been doing in America for generations.

Going to be great in 6-8 weeks when the unemployment rate is in the teens and the $1200 has run out and the millionaires and billionaires are asking for another round of bailouts.

They will be getting unemployment + 600 per week. Shouldn't be a problem, IF (it's a big if) the unemployment payments can function properly. Idk why people aren't talking about this more

I think that Trump and the GOP high command are betting on opening things back up by that time. No doubt it will be a total disaster if the virus runs wild and the death toll soars, but Trump & Company (especially some GOP governors like DeSantis and Kemp) care less about that than dealing with a deepening recession/depression and the resulting political consequences.

Unemployment payments vary by state, I believe. The NC state legislature slashed NC's unemployment benefits about 8 to 10 years ago, so how much that will help is an open question.

Yep. The FL unemployment system was designed to make it hard for people to apply so they could pass the savings back to employers.

Trump and the Republicans think the problem is both the coronavirus but mostly our reaction to it that’s hurting the economy.

The problem is the coronavirus and an economy and political system that’s not equipped to handle any shock to the system.

I think this is going to be the future.
People start getting the stimulus checks and government opens things up say May 1st.
People start going out, economy starts moving..... and then lots more people start getting sick.. Like a lot more. Businesses need to close because they now can't have enough staff to stay open.

Stimulus II: The Payback gets pushed out late summer.... and corporations get bailed out again.

I waiting for Trump to have his Marie Antoinette "let them eat cake" moment when he'll tweet that if the Applebee's is closed, just go down to Outback and get a bloomin onion.

Closing or dramatically cutting the USPS and closing voting precincts, what a perfect way for Fuhrer Trump to win!

Labor Department officials said Scalia is moving rapidly to help U.S. workers in an unprecedented time. They pointed to a poster and guidebook that OSHA released with steps companies “can take” to reduce worker risk of coronavirus exposure.

When workers at a manufacturing plant in northern Illinois tried alerting government officials about their concerns about working shoulder to shoulder, the regional OSHA official responded that “all OSHA can do is contact an employer and send an advisory letter outlining the recommended protective measures,” according to an email reviewed by The Washington Post. “This isn’t very helpful for you or your labor group, but it is the best I have to offer,” the email said.

Can't believe the poster didn't protect workers.
