Going to Vancouver tomorrow for a few days for work. Actually going to be doing very little work, giving a presentation for 30 minutes and will be there for 5 days. Going skiing at Blackcomb twice. What's cool to see/do, what to stay away from, and just general thoughts about the city. Much thanks.

Was thinking about catching game 1 of the NHL western conf finals but don't want to drop hundreds on a ticket.

Ha. We'll see, not that big of a hockey fan, but would be a cool experience. If some coworkers want to, will probably do it.

Do not take your laptop. Vancouver has a prevalent problem with car break-ins and that includes popping open your trunk, as well as the trunks of everyone else in the parking lot. Yes, we're still bitter that this happened at the end of our honeymoon...

ETA: Do try some of the beers & ciders from British Columbia. They are mighty good!

Definitely go check out Stanley park. Huge beautiful park right downtown, amazing views and landscape. Great place to spend some time, have lunch, go for a jog, ride a bike, drive around, whatever.

Going to Vancouver with my wife soon. Both of us are in a similar situation as the OP. We were there for about 3 days for our honeymoon several years ago. May do a few of the same things, but looking for some additional recommendations. We are staying near Stanley Park so we'll be there in the mornings and afternoons. Restaurant recs are definitely appreciated.

Ha this is funny, wife and I are thinking Vancouver for our 10th anniv this summer. You guys scope out the breweries for me.

Blackcomb skiing in the spring was awesome, went twice. Can't remember much about restaurants. Ended up not going to the hockey game. City was awesome though.

Vancouver is awesome. Second the Stanley Park recommendations. Granville Island is also a cool little place to walk around.

I did the Capilano Suspension Bridge and thought it was a little bit of a tourist trap.

How was the snow when you were spring skiing at whistler/Blackcomb? I've only been in January and we got snow when we were there so it was epic. I could imagine though that the snow gets like Tahoe in the spring, as in icy, heavy, wet and not great for skiing off trail. Is this the case or is it far enough north to avoid those problems?

We did that as well and I agree. Although we'd probably take our kids when we come with them.

I went in the middle of May. Thankfully it was the second heaviest snow year they've ever had. They normally aren't open then. Whistler was closed and only the top half and the glacier of Blackcomb were open. The resort is so huge, that even this amount of the mountain was still huge. The first day was a little wet, and could be kind of hard to ski in. The next day was amazing, and the back side of the mountain was open, had been closed due to avalanche conditions. Powder that hadn't been skied on in 6 days. Had a blast. Can't imagine skiing many places in mid may, unless they are that far north.

ABasin and Loveland say hello in June

It is mashed taters, but man it is a wild and enjoyable experience. Pack is looking good again this year to get to June again. Skiing then breweries/Rockies game in a surreal experience that I doubt will ever grow old.

Had a fantastic time in Vancouver. What a great city. We stayed at an apartment hotel within a 5 minute walk of Stanley Park and several great shops and restaurants. I highly recommend the location. We felt like locals. Last time, we stayed near BC Place and the Edgewater Casino. It wasn't as nice and didn't have as much to offer.

We enjoyed going back to the Granville Island Market. Instead of doing the Capiliano Suspension Bridge, we did the Lynn Canyon Suspension Bridge. Lynn Canyon is free and more of a hiking trail around scenic falls. Apparently, it's also a popular place for thrill seekers. A 17 year old kid died jumping off a cliff this week. We went to Grouse Mountain and it wasn't worth it unless you're there to ski or you really want to see snow or go up a mountain. Last time we went was in May and it was more of a mountain theme park. They had grizzly bears, a lumberjack show, a bird show, and we had a lot of fun. Ski season is still going so that's really all they had. We walked around in the snow for a bit then just hung out in the chalet and enjoyed the view.

The weather was amazing this week. Highs in the mid-60s. Didn't drop below high 40s. Didn't even need a heavy coat.
