I'm not sure how a pass rusher leaping to bat down a ball is supposed to control not landing on or near the QB.

Throw hands up without jumping so he can run past the QB? Reminds me of the pump fake in basketball to get your guy in the air and shoving your shoulder into the defender to draw a foul
